After reading the thread about the spot at SW corner Luna and 635, I thought I'd share my favorite spot, and maybe you can share yours.
I call my spot Lake LB Houston. Its in Dallas, just barely. You can park in a gravel lot thats on California Crossing Rd between Luna Rd and Riverside Dr. Its across the street from the Texas National Guard barracks. This 'lake' is a former whiterock quarry. I know its fed by the Elm Fork of the Trinity River, but I suspect it is also underground spring fed. The water was remarkably cool even during those 100+ degree days. I mostly fish there in the evenings from about 4PM till may 8 or 9 seeing as the rest of the day is spent searching for a new job.
The grass area is maintained by Dallas Parks and Wildlife, and they knock it down when it gets about a foot in height. The rest of the area is bike paths maintained by a group called DORBA(Dallas Off Road Bikers Association). For the most part, they are friendly, but there have been a couple of pricks. They dont mind you using the path to get to the fishing holes on the south end(they cant tell you no, its public), but the encourage you to walk against the flow of traffic as much as possible, so no one gets run over. The trail is very fast so watch out!
At first blush, one can see it has a weed problem. It does, but one can work their way around or through it. Right now, it is a bit shallow, but the fishing has been very consistent all year. The banks have some very old beer and soda bottles and other litter, but not much is fresh. I dont see many people out there anyways. Which is cool with me.
As for the fish, I am a bassman. I like largemouth bass, and thats pretty much it, although I do intend to do some catfishing soon. The biggest bass I've pulled out has been about 4 pounds, but I've seen larger bass in areas that are difficult to access. Most of my fish are in the 2 pound range. They have all been very healthy looking, with fat bellies. I have seen channel cats, alligator gar, longnose gar, crappie, bluegill, and carp(not sure the species), but there may be others.
Currently I am landing fish on the newer Bill Lewis Ratt'L'Traps with either a red back/silver body, black/silver body, blue back/silver body, and all red. I have also had great success using a pearl color Zoom Super Fluke rigged weedless with a 5/0 Owner hook. Also the cheap $1 spinner baits in chartreuse, chartreuse/white, white, red/white, and red/chart/white with tandem blades have been effective. I have experiment using Gary Yamamoto's 5 inch Yama-Senkos in a shad color rigged weithless with a 5/0 Owner hook, and rigger Wacky with the same hook but a 1/8 brass bullet weight for extra spunk.
Do wear boots. My first trip out there resulted in a hot bite from a water moccasin. Fortunately I was wearing a pair of Bates M-9 boots and jeans. The bite fangs never broke skin, but I did have venom on my boots and jeans. Speaking to the DORBA people they say they see Copperheads often, but not water moccasins. I saw one this evening swimming for shore from a small island of sand about 50 feet from shore.
If you have a small boat, it is possible to get in from the parking lot, but you'll have to drag or carry it.
Its a nice spot, hope to some out there. Now share your spots.

I fish at White Rock Lake often near my house in the late fall- winter. I mainly fish for crappie and yellow bass there. I use 50-gazillion type of jigs and lives minnow.

white is the place to go for some crappie in the winter. but if u go in the winter watch out for ALOT of fishermen, gill netters, and beavers, once them beavers come it take a few minutes before they start biting agian. From time to time you'll catch sandies too.

I have a personal favorite pond which is located at the edge of mesquite and balch springs. The place is Double D Ranch just off of Lake June RD. The admission is $10 for adults and $5 for kids. I have caught many largemouth averaging from 2.5-6lbs and one 7.8lbs on craw fish jigs plastic frogs and crank baits. I have also caught several 1.5-2.5lb crappie on minnows and jigs. There is also big cats in there too but I dont fish for them on purpose landing a 8.5lb on a crank bait. It is not hard to catch a 10 fish 25lb stringer on a 100 degree day and you can keep what you catch with the price of admission. They are open Tues-Thurs 10am-6pm and Fri-Sat 10am-12midnight when they have weddings or events going on.

Havent found my favorite spot yet, but the water treatment discharge on the West Fork of the Trinity ranks right up there. About a mile upriver from Greenbelt Rd. Kayak works best. Here is a list of community fishing lakes and ponds listed by county. Its a great resource. http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/fishboat/fish/recreational/lakes/cfl.phtml?r=2

Went fishing tonight with my pawn shop steal of a deal(Castaway rod/ BPS low profile baitcaster) spooled with 14lb test Stren Magniflex green($3 per spool at Southwestern). My lure was an old Terminator spinner with tandem blades and a blue/white skirt. I wanted to use a chunky bait to get some distance on my casts in the heavy wind. I hooked into 2 large mouth bass. They are two of the bigger ones I've caught at "Lake LB Houston". I didnt have a ruler, mostly because I dont have one to begin with, but I'd say they were both atleast 20 inches, give or take. First fish: Second fish:
