I spoke to the guy at the Academy here is Ft Worth and he told me that all of them there were sold before the store was open--to employees---so much for taking care of their loyal customers--I did pick up the new Curado though!!

That's poor retail management, right there. You don't advertise something to the public, then disappoint those who come in 'cause the sales staff got all the goodies. Management should have set a limit on what the staff could access and most of the merch should have been reserved for paying customers.

Or else don't advertise it.

There's a post on another forum from an Academy employee who mentioned that his store got five of the new Curados and he bought two immediately.

I don't begrudge salespeople from getting good deals at the store, but is it a wise managerial decision to let 40% of a new shipment that customers have been waiting for, to go off the shelf immediately to the staff? Thereby giving customers the opportunity to visit competing stores and spending their money on more stuff than just the reel?

It's not like Academy is the only store around here. There's Cabela's, Sportsman's Warehouse, BPS, Gander Mtn. etc. Prob'ly some folks would have immediately gone to a competing store if they'd been aware of a situation like that.

I agree. I don't think that the price was ever advertised here in any print medium. It would have been better to just have it in store and allow a first come, first sold. With a limit of one per customer/salesforce.

The weekly add circular from Academy is always featuring mostly everyday prices (in black) a with very few actual sale prices ( in red). Clearance pricing usually is "in store" only.

Ha! I was able to pick one up yesterday at Gander Mountain for $59! Yesssss!

i looked at one of the new curados...nice looking reel, not as light as I expected...the guy at academy said the old curados went for 59 bucks to all the employess and they are now awaiting the arrival of new citicas so they can buy the old ones for 49 bucks...i need to get a job at academy for a couple weeks

all the old curados in waco went to the employees, good thing i am one, but i only got one. the citicas will go fast too.

now they are all for sale on ebay!

How did you get the pricing from Academy?

I was going to Academy and Gander Mountain that morning, bought the last 201 reel from Academy @ $59.88, went over to Gander Mountain and told them of the Academy sale, and I wanted them to price match, long story short, they let me have 1, and said their policy was to match competitors in stock items only.

It would probably make you angry then if I told you I bought 6 of them from Gander Mountain (1-100 & 5-300's) for $53.89 after the %10 discount for filling out their credit card application, so I won't share that information with you.

I also won't tell you that I sold 3 of the 300's on ebay for an average of $173.66 each.

Probably would make you mad that I think that is sorry thing to do. Instead of a fisherman getting one that needs one you make a quick buck off of it--again that will probably make you mad so I wont tell you.

Academy's around here are sold out. Ibought two on ebay from aguy in Plainview. Thought there was someone on here posting about buying several on sale from Plainview. Don't see his post anymore. If it was him, he made a nice profit.
