What another great day, same place by the Lake Lewisville I-35 Bridge. Got on the Lake around 7.00am, went under the bridge from Highland Village, NO BOATS. First cast produced a 2Ib Sand Bass, Within 10 minutes the fish started to surface, then the boats started to arrive. For the next 5 hours me and my wife had a ball, today we ache so bad from pulling in so many good fish. Had well over 100 fish in the boat, decided to only keep Sand Bass over 14 inches, we kept 20 of them, we found some really good Hybrids, no keepers but about 18 inches long and weight around 5Ibs, we had three really good fish that broke lines when we got them close to the boat.

The fish we surfacing all the time around the small Island by Hickory Creek boat ramp, you just had to sit and wait 15 minutes and they would surface around you. Had some good conversations with other boaters and all said one thing "This is fun". It is so nice to see the bird again fishing, big birds, big Blue Herons constantly fishing around us and so many of the fish brought into the boat choked up lots of shad.

Got home and had to actually clean the boat down, blood, scales and shad covered the floor.

My wife is getting good at removing the hooks even though see still talks to the fish and tells them see is sorry about the hook and tries very hard to make a painless removal. But have not got her to clean them yet, any advise how you do this.

May go out Monday from 6.30am to 11.00am, until the nutter's get on the lake.

The biggest pain yesterday way not the Jet skiers, personnel watercraft's or skiers it was very inconsiderate fisherman, many times during the day a Bass boat would come straight through top water action at 40MPH not giving it a second thought. Many of the pleasure craft actually kept well away of the fishing boats, THANK YOU.

Get her an eletric fillet knife, that's how my wife learned. Now she can fillet one fast and better than I can. This way you din't need to scale or gut the fish. In the catfishing forum there is a video posted by Tiny on this method. Good luck.

We have the electric fillet knife, but that don't work.

Looks like it's my job, but I suppose that is a fair swap, she cleans the boat, I clean the fish. GOOD DEAL.

Nice report NTB. Since I launch at Westlake, I dont get down to the bridge a lot. I need to put that on my to-do list!

Hey Newto bassfishin! grin Thanks for the report.
Haven't run across you since last summer. Thanks again for the advise on how to hang those hybrids. I've gotten a little better at it this year. thumb

Hi Bigmack,

Nice to hear from you, seems a long time since we meet last year, me and the wife have been over to that spot many times this year but we never cross paths, the last few times we have been out we have stayed near the I-35 bridge and had a great time and used nearly no gas, from the ramp to the bridge, 1/4 mile and then Trolling motor the rest of the day.

I will not be out for a few weeks due to business commitments out of state, would like to have taken a Soldier fishing this weekend but I will be in Chicago.

Hope to see you out there this year, I changed the boat we have a 22ft Sea Pro now, little bit more room for the wife and dog.

Mind if I ask what lure you're using? My son and I have fished under the 35 bridge repeatedly and never even a nibble. I have been fishing mostly in the evening, if that makes a difference. Thanks!

SO the hybrids weren't keepers but they were 18 inches and 5lbs?!?!? I dont think I have ever seen a 18inch 5lb hybrid.

I agree with you enignjason, they were 18 inches but more like 3 Ibs, we had a couple of larger fish but did not keep any Hybrids, it was a constant on the go fishing. The Hybrids were very fat and lively. The Sandbass were after big shad on top and the Hybrids were down on the bottom, in some areas especially to the north of the Hickory Creek ramp, the small channel that goes up to a couple of big houses, the water was 9 feet and that's were we hit the biggest Hybrids, the Sandbass were chasing the shad up into there with no were to go.

Also an answer to Tristar93, was using Humdingers on the top and TNT slabs for the Hybrids, but we never fish near or under the I-35 Bridge, there is a lot of fish down there but mostly crappie the sand bass and Hybrids very rarely get close to that bridge, it seems there is an electric fence to stop the sand bass and hybrids going over the the west side of I-35, I have never caught any sand bass or hybrids on the west side. Get out there at daylight about 1/2 mile of the bridge and watch, the shoreline to the south usually produces fish in the morning. Good luck.
