I don't think this is a regular water snake because I've never seen one like it before. I hope someone on the TFF can identify this snake..

Wow. For once it's one that doesnt scream WATER SNAKE.
Most water snakes swim with their heads below the water.

It's kinda hard to see the colors. Is it black with white stripes just dark with some lighter stripes?

If it is just dark with the lighter bands/stripes it's probably a water moccasin/cotton mouth.

From this angle the head definitely looks pit viper - ish

Side of the face and eye location is a bit different.

Already been stated.
A 'Broad Banded Water Snake' is more specific.
Nerodia Fasciata covers many southern watersnakes.


This is nearly impossible to identify with out more pictures.

Great picture and find.

But all that we can really do is guess at what it is.
