The problem with fishing from a boat is that it really isnt practical to fish out of a boat for days. This is the main reason, I think, why most carpers bank fish. They need a place to live for a while.
The way you do it from a boat is how the catfishers do it, which is called spider rigging. Rods are placed around the perimeter of the boat in rod holders. Rather than electronic bite alarms you would use bait clicking reels.
My pb carp was caught at Emerald, from my boat that was anchored in a bed of lillies, using a 7ft Lightning Rod with Abu round reel bait clickers.
That night it was so cold that I had to use my empty range cube bags as a type of sleeping bag. The water, however, was so warm that the lillies were in bloom, in late January.
The sound of a carp taking line off of a bait clicking reel is the most awesome of all sounds! lol

So the way to do this is similar to what Jason said. However, I took my peg mount seats and welded my own pod so that I can fish rods off both the front and rear of the boat wtih alarms. When I get all unpacked and moved in, I will post some pictures.

I freeline bread off of my boat. I have some nice boat rod holders and I use them if the action isn't fast, but if the fish are on, I just hold the rod or lean it up against me or the side of the boat. When I do this freelining, I usually beach the boat and set the lines out on each side.
