I'VE SEEN THIS STUFF IN THE BAIT SHOP CALLED REDNECKS CATFISH SOAP. HAS ANYONE TRIED THIS STUFF AND HAVE THERE BEEN ANY SUCCESS ON IT? IT SMELLED LIKE LICORICE CANDY THROUGH THE PLASTIC BAG IT WAS IN.

I've used it and it works just fine! I use it mostly on trotlines or jug lines only.

Soap baits have been around for a hundred years, and are not known to work well for rod and reel fishing for whatever reason, but they do work on jug and trotlines.

I've got picture proof from the fifties, using only Ivory soap, of wash tubs full of catfish caught on nothing but white Ivory soap for bait.

Rednecks Soap is made of animal fat, and some other scents that are added to it to attract the catfish that feeds by scent in usually muddy waters, and most soap baits are handed down old recipes (Rednecks soap) that are time tested and proven.

You can buy Zote brand pink soap from HEB that is made the old fashioned way, and it too works pretty well on trotlines.

Yup, I can attest to the Zote soap working well, as well as the plain Ivory. Have gone and pulled catfish after catfish off trotlines baited with only Ivory soap cut into cubes. It stays on the hook well, and takes a long time to dissolve.

As a secondary benefit, your hands are pretty clean when you are done taking fish off/rebaiting, since you are using soap for bait!

I bought some mail order catfish bait a few years ago. Tried it on some jugs. It worked but was no better or worse than any other bait, but sure did smell better.
I'm always trying to some catfish bait that doesn't smell to high heaven. There is always some one who will vouch for any kind of bait you can think of.
I'm no great shakes as a catfisherman, but I think a catfish will bite anything at least once.

When I was growing up in the fifties my parents and kinfolk fished exclusively with trotlines, and ready made prepared baits wasn't available, and thus the use of such things as soap, and jackrabbit meat filled the bill, as well as cut perch, and other baits that could be caught or found around the lake that we fished.

We found one bait that was just about a sure thing, that beat all the other baits, and us kids did most of the collecting of the bait when we would go down to the nearby creek or river and wade around and pull hand sized muscles out of the mud beneath the surface of the water, and in some cases diving under where it was deeper to retrieve them, while the grown ups sat on the bank, and opened the shells and scooped out the flesh and placed it in glass (didn't have plastic back then) gallong jars, that were then iced down.

They made excellent catfish bait, and we would fill several glass jugs with the meat from the fresh water clams, and then it was off to the lake for the weekend to set out the lines.

It was fun, but I remember how much it was like hard work, and I doubt that today anyone would even attempt to do that, and with pollution and all, you can't find those muscles as big and as plentiful as the ones we used to find in the local creeks.

I met a fellow down here in Rockport that uses the soap imported from Mexico. He has a place on the Guadeloupe River and trotlines a lot there. He swears by the soap. I've seen the soap in bags when we go to Progreso. May have to pick up a bag next time.

I have used it before it is a slow bite bait meaning you want to used it on trotlines and or juglines.. Cause it can be hours before you get bit on it.. I myself have not had to much luck on it , but it does work...

WELL I BOUGHT SOME SO I'M GOING TO GO SET OUT MY 5TH TROTLINE OF THE SUMMER BAITED WITH THIS STUFF. I'M ABOUT READY TO START SETTING OUT MY TROTLINES WHEN I HAVE TIME TO MOVE OFF OF THEM ABOUT A HALF MILE AND BABYSIT THEM. I'VE LOST FOUR THIS SUMMER TO THIVES OR SKIERS.

I bought 2 years ago in kansas, but never got a bite off of it. But there is some Texas catfishermen who does alot of the trot line fishing and jug fishing that swear by it.

I can also vouch for Zote and Ivory soap. They work good on trotlines and jugs. I spray the cubes with WD-40 before I drop 'em. Works good.

redneck soap worked every time for me on juglines zote is from mexico works on juglines good results

I keep a couple bars of Red Necks in my boat for jug lines if I run out of shad.
