i fish a 6' shimano medium. i'm in the market for a 7 footer, just never been a big fan of the stiffer medium heavy rods.

ME neither Winky. I used to fish with a Berkley bionic 5'2" Med Lt. that my mom had gotten in a combo at BPS. I used that thing for probably 12 years, until a buddy broke it off in the car door. Caught more fish over 7 lbs on that thing than I can remember.
However, now.....I LOVE my new Falcon Med Hvy. that I got at Academy last week......it is sensitive and light and it just freakin rocks! Made in America too, so that is awesome.

7' MH catfish shakespeare combo. I got a 2nd one today cause I enjoyed and I'm still enjoying the first one. I may just start an arsenal of'em, in different lengths of course. Next is an 8 footer.
Just cause there's water don't mean there's fish

"With 50 lbs Power Pro line and 4 oz of weight, he can launch that thing very far...sometime I can't hear the water splash or see where it landed."
How in the world do you catch a fish that far out? Especially if there is even a little wind blowing, even with 4oz of weight, I would think it would be super hard to feel a bite out that far.
My longest pole is a 7 footer I use for C-rig and flipping in trees and such.
My catfish pole is a 6'6" MH Cabelas rod.....it seems to get the job done for me well enough. I have a 13' that you don't have to worry about "feeling" a bite because the bait caster clicker screams and the rod bends. The use of circle hooks is necessary because of the distance.

That might be why I was having trouble imagining that. I have tried circle hooks and such before, but I can never seem to get the cats to actually pick my stuff up and run off with it. They always just bitebitebite, and if I don't set the hook on em, they just get off with my bait, without my hook in their mouth.
Maybe I'm doing something wrong.

when i fish for blues in the winter, anything 3+ pounds takes my 3 oz weight for a joy ride.
I don't really know what to type here.

I use to have a long distant 15 ft. casting rod. Could cast a 4 oz. weight about 400 ft. but it was just to big for me, so I have down sized to 12 ft. for my longest pole now. Put prefer my 11 ft. But this is just for large dam fishing and not my reg. catfishing. Then it is 8 ft.

my carp rods are 12' X2 Green Mile 2.75-3.0 Test Curve Hey Scott...why did you use fluorescent green fish line. Does it work better, less twist, and more limp? Does it hide the line better than clear mono line? Thanks.

It still gets line twist if you reel in while the fish is pulling drag but overall I am very happy with it and the fish don't seem to mind

I have couple of 7'6" rods that are my longest. Am saving up for some longer rods and setup like ScottEvil's. At the moment I can get about 60 yards on my 12# p-line and 1oz weight. Any more weight overloads the rods too much.
I also loosen my drag so that any fish that takes it will pull out line against the drag instead of dragging the rod/reel into the water.
When I was younger, I used to think the bank fishing was a bit boring, too, but now it suits me fine.
