How much chum, is too much chum? per Lb.

2-3 hand fulls every 30 minutes.

That depends on a lot of factors, including:

What are you chumming with?
What time of year is it?
How warm is the water?
Are you catching a lot of fish or nothing at all?

Very generally speaking:

The warmer the water, the more chum you want. Remember, fish are cold blooded. When they're warm, they're active, and they need a lot more food. A hungry pod of carp will go through a lot of chum, especially if it's something that breaks down like range cubes.

When it's cold out, the fish get sluggish and don't eat as much or as often. You only need a little chum, and you don't want to fill them up.

But in the summer, it can be hard to overfeed the fish, especially in a lake with a large population.

As for per pound, keep in mind what the bait is doing in the water. If it's a range cube, it's breaking down into a pile of mush that will drift away if there's current, and is going to be getting vacuumed up swiftly by carp, catfish, buffalo, etc etc.

If it's field corn, it's just going to sit on the bottom, piling up until something finally comes along to eat it.

awsome, thanks for the help guys. i've been using deer feed from wal-mart.. its called "buck'ola" its small pellets that do indeed breakdown. I might be going to the feed store to buy some mule feed to try next. and our pond is probably pretty warm. thanks again guys, I DO appreciate it

this time of year I don't think you can over chum

Try mixing cornmeal,oats, and canned cat food. Make a paste out of it. This will sound like a joke, but it used to work great in the river...pack a lot of the paste in a knee high stocking. Tie the top and tie it to a fish string so you can pull it in later as to not pollute the pond or river. Poke several holes/slits in it so the mixture will seep out.. It will last longer and larger fish can't carry it away....

the panty hose does work. i have tried that before! it stays pretty long, the only drawback is it is very localized

It's true it is localized.... The San Jac River was my back yard growing up and I wanted all the fish to stay at my pier, so I did this daily and had the best fishin hole in the river. The fish also attracted the gar, that was my favorite! I will try to find the pic's and post them. The biggest was caught by my Mom, it was 6'4" and we couldn't weight it..So we had grown men lay by it to take pic's....man that was an exciting night that I will never forget...We had to shoot it to get in onto the bank...and yes, we did eat it...it's really good , but flaky cooking it.
