I know a lot of people might take issue with this, and certainly I have not owned one of everything they have made but my experience with Quantum has shown their products to be sub par so even not knowing much about those two models I would go with the Shimano.

The Quantum spinning reels are actually quite good. I have a Catalyst, Energy, and Inferno--all very smooth and they have ceramic drag--I dont care for their baitcasters but there spinning gear is ok with me.

Quantum Energy or Shimano Symetere and why? The new Symetre FJs are going to be totally outstanding. The Symetre FJs are going to be priced at about the $100 price point. Are the FJ's on the market yet and if not, do you know when? Indeed, the FJs are on the market now. I got my 2500FJ about three months ago. I just got a 4000FJ a couple of weeks ago, but I've not put line on it yet, and am considering taking it back for a 5000FJ. They are really great reels. TFP

Add $30 more and you can get the Shimano Saros...I got 2 Saros 4000f and love 'em...smooth casting and retrieving...and the drag is just spectacular...
Work: a dangerous disorder affecting high public functionaries who want to go fishing.

I got to see the new Quantums this week and the PT spinning reels are too cool. No doubt have to have one. Totally new design and very smooth. Before you buy make sure you get a close look at the new PT.

Thanks for all the input. Sounds like I need to take a close hard look at all the ones mentioned here. I appreciate the input from everyone, it's just good to get opinions of others to help with the decision making. Thanks again all.

the wave really handles braided line well the model i have is really small, like the size of most ultra lites, and yet can handle 20 lb braid it has 12 drag disc and a 2 piece spool to remove old line quickly it will not tangel and loop like all the rest, look at the front of the spool it causes the line to skip instead of making contact all the time thus it throws farther, get one you wont be dissapointed

I bought a Shimano Stradic 4000. I know its not one of the two your choosing but I like it alot. Shimano has my vote.
