Bottom line this was the best trip I have been on in atleast a year.

Between my friend, his girlfriend and me we managed over 100 fish. Honestly no fishing tail here just pristen untouched fishing. The spawn was on its final stretch and everything was bitting. We tryed setting trout lines overnight but the fish had other ideas. At the end of saturdays fishing we tryed to set trout lines but everytime we would put one in the one behind us already had a fish. After trying to setup three lines and catching 5 fish we gave up and called it a night.

Here is the main tally
6-7 Rio grande cichlids that were larger then a dinner plate!! banana
15 brim that were much bigger then my hand closer to the size of my head!! banana
1 fifteen pound cat and one 6 pound cat. frown
2 LMB over 3 pounds frown
1 Trout lined fish that broke 25 pound test tied to a tree? realmad

Now that is a great fishing list. However it wasnt the fish that were big it was the fact that saturday we had non-stop action. We couldnt get to the big ones cause no matter what we were trying to catch the smaller ones would get there first. I'v never seen a pearch hit a worm or a full size crankbait imediatly, atleast till this trip. It was amazing. We hit the water again on sunday for 4 or 5 hours and either we killed our small spot saturday or the fish were hiding under the tree roots? Sunday wasnt a bad day but saturday was what put this trip easily into my top 8 trips ever.

The bast part was the water was on my friends secluded and PRIVATE ranch and he never fish's it, EVER!!!!!!!!!!! These fish would look right at you and bite the hook at your feet. I did alot of fly fishing and some ultra light 2lb test fishing, which is what i cought the 6 pound cat and several other 2-4 pounders on, boy what a fight. It was all sight fishing while wading or sitting in cyprus trees, and super easy to boot. Even my friends girl friend dropped a piece of worm on just a hook next to a tree root and cought a 2 pound bass, the very nest hunk of worm was a dinner plate size rio grande cichlid. I could litterally catch a pearch in 10 seconds. EVERYTIME!!!!!!!!!! I walked up to the bridge when we first got there and they were eager to see me fly fish so i said ok but it might take a minute to hook up

Cast 1 8 inch bass
Cast 2 pearch
Cast 3 pearch
Cast 4 4 inch bass
Cast 5 Nearly a dinner plate Rio
Cast 6 missed him

And so on, and so on......
Only down side we couldnt bear to stop for pictures, I know, I know. You wana kill me hugh, dont worry a few times i forced them to take a few while they were stoping for water or food. Or for pure exhoustion. As soon as i get these VERY FEW pictures i will post them.

That sounds like an great trip. Every once in awhile I find some pristine unfished water and the fish just seem stacked up waiting to be caught. Those are the days I dream of and get me by the long, hot days at work!!

Wow! Nice catches.. We live in the "Frio River" area.. and been fishing here my whole life.. Never get tired of it... Don't you love how the water is crystal clear and can basically cast right on top of them..

I have also had many occasions where I catch a fish a minute or within seconds.. granted not all of them are keepers... There's actually a lot of unfished waters here.. We have caught some very nice Cats here and I've seen plenty of Trophy Bass.

Glad you enjoyed your trip and The Frio.. Truly is Gods Country.

Take Care,

Y'all be nice now. I imagine my loops are not exactly nice and tight either. Newbies need gentle help, don't squash them...LOL.
