Got the Ambassador 4600 loaded with Gorilla Braid and a 10# mono leader tied together with a double uni-knot. It casts good, but not far as mono. It's visible in the water, that's why there is a 6' leader on it. Ok the braid is 35# and as skinny as 10# mono. No I have not caught any fish on the rig yet, but have done some casting with various plugs, spoons, and live bait. Does ok with all but the lightest weights.
Still can't see the advantage. Any comments?

If I am fishing something like "salad" where I am likely to hook a 3 plus pound bass thats going to dive into the vegitation on hook set then 40 lbs braid makes a lot of sense. Im going to have to horse such a fish out and Im probably going to bring it up with 10 lbs fo salad too.
Sure you can use mono of one composition or another but your not going to be able to apply the grunt neccessary to get it out fast. Additionally as you go up in poundage on mono its not as supple and your baits dont act as natrual.
If your fishing something like Lily Pads if you get tangles up in it on a hooked fish you can release several feet of line and it will easily saw through the stems freeing up your fish so you can get it in before it wraps you up around [censored] again. Cant do that with smooth mono, but abrasive braid will saw right through a heck of a lot better.
Braid is smaller in diameter too. This allows for heavier line without the bulk or stiffness you would have with Mono of the equivelent poundage. It also has very minimal stretch as well allow for better feel of what your baits doing down below the surface and allows for quicker solid hook ups and allows a hook to be driven solidly though the tough boney parts of a fishes mouth.
I use both Mono and Braid, just depends on the area I am fishing. Both have a place in ones arsenal of weapons.

Braid has less (no) stretch so your sensitivity is better--much better. Hook set is better. You have a better chance of getting a lure that is snagged back--and for me it casts much better. Plus you dont have to worry about how long it has been ona spool.

Braid makes a $15 Walmart special feel like a $400 G Loomis.

You can fish for Crappie one day and turn around the next using the same rod & reel and land a 1,000# Blue Marlin.

Stronger, better feel and better hook set, especially if you jig the grass or frog the pads!

Anyone in the FtWorth area wanting to give braid a try--Cabelas has a ton of braid on clearance.

Last saturday they had a bunch of suffix braid on clearance in Cabelas, and I manage to get a few spools on the # test I wanted, 10 and 20. It's a big advantage over mono on strength and sensitivity and I have all my reels but 1 with it.Just keep on using it,you're going to like it,I think.
I just want to fish a few days a week!

Couple of things that might help you with braid is to put some mono on first(this will keep the braid from spinning on the spool and spool it on really tight--I mean REALLY tight. That keeps it from digging in as bad if you do have a backlash.

The way I fish for sandbass there is no advantage, it is a big pain in the as@$. Tried it twice and both times give it away. Johnny

If you slab fish for them there is a HUGE advantage--more sensitive which will help with the more subtle bites and strong enough with no stretch to get your lure back if you are hung up---sandjohnny makes his own lures so probably not that big of a deal(awsome slabs/spinner lures by the way! )

If you are using a 10 lb liter, then go down to 20 lb braid, that has a 6 lb diameter. Unbelievable sensitivity when carolina rigging in deep water, and if your hook set isn,t the strongest that's okay because braid has no give.
