Mine is 12' long (two pieces).
My Dad is 16' long (3 pieces). With 50 lbs Power Pro line and 4 oz of weight, he can launch that thing very far...sometime I can't hear the water splash or see where it landed.

How in the world do you catch a fish that far out? Especially if there is even a little wind blowing, even with 4oz of weight, I would think it would be super hard to feel a bite out that far.
My longest pole is a 7 footer I use for C-rig and flipping in trees and such.
My catfish pole is a 6'6" MH Cabelas rod.....it seems to get the job done for me well enough.

I'm going for stripers or hybrids. and when they hit the bait with so much force, it can either tip your pole over or drag it in the water. but i've caught sand bass, catfish and even small yellow bass on my 12ft pole. sometimes you need a 4oz weight to get it as far as you can to get it out there to the fish

He always seems to catch bigger fish than me each time that we go fishing. I bet it has to do with his excellent casting distance. And trust me, catfish, drum, bass, and gar always hit hard esp. on Power Pro Line...these braided line dont stretch like mono line. The way we rigged our line is that we keep the weight on the bottom and hook on top. The fish will pull the line before they pull the 4 oz weight. We just love watching the tips bouncing hard and the butt pops up into the air. There has been many time when the whole friggin rod flied into the water. Luckily, we like to add bells to our fishing poles...so we always know when fish are striking. We were able to chasing all the one that took off into the water and grab them before they go into the deep. Now, that is bank fishing.

Yea it's been awhile since I've fished like that. It gets kinda boring waiting for fish to bite. Only time I use a big surf rod is when I'm fishing at a dam or something.

I'm taking about just rigging up some bait and casting it all the way out and then sit there and wait for something to bite.
I rather work for my fish jigging and stuff than sitting there staring at my pole. I think it's more fun catching nothing jigging than waiting there until something hits your bait

bank fishing is fun....like ssf said, you need new buddies or a new spot because if you have to wait long enough for you to get bored, you either have ADD or you need a new spot.
that is a nice setup ScottEvil...longest pole just 11 foot...gets the job done.
I don't really know what to type here.

15' Hatteras Jack custom made surf rod I got in NC. I have a Penn 8500SS on it loaded with Fire Line. Used it for fishing for big reds and stripers fishing the Outer Banks. I can cast that thing 100 yards easy with a 3oz weight/
