I had to be towed in Saturday (I was lucky and my son was on the water in our pontoon, so he towed me.)
My 1999 EFI 225 had been running just great, then after being shut down for maybe 15 min. would not idle less then 5000 rpm. It looked like the butterflys were not returning to closed. I removed the hotfoot throttle linkage and it didn't make any difference. It looked like all the linkage returned to stops except the butterfly rods with the springs on them. The cam follower that moves them wasn't returning back against the cam. I couldn't see any thing keeping it from returning, but I couldn't get it back closed even while turning the shaft by hand.
Any ideas???

Something has gotten stuck in the throttle body. Look in it with a flashlight and see if you find the foreign object and remove it.

You were right Tommy, the wire that attaches to the bottom of the water seperator thingy came loose and got sucked up into the throttle body. Just had to pull to out and crimp it a little tighter and reattach.
Problem solved. But it did teach me one thing.... even with the dependable engines of today a small tool kit needs to be on the boat. If I had of had a socket set I could have fixed it right there and avoided having to be towed in. And if I had spent some time looking at the engine i might have known there should have been a wire attaced to the water seperator!!
Tks,

Jim.

that could be my fault. All the electronic BS is disconnected on that engine.
that wire was never attached to the fuel filter. I should have tied it off somewhere. MY BAD.
even being attached to the fuel filter it won't tell you anything. but atleast it won't get into the throttle body!!
