It's been quite some time since I have posted a report here so I figured I would stop by to say hello.
I took an early trip this morning and decided to try a new area in upper Galveston Bay that I have wanted to fish for a while now. The conditions were pretty much perfect. I launched a little after 5 and was at my first spot within 15 minutes.
I decided to stick close to a shoreline and fish a flood light that was at the end of a pier until the sun poked over the horizon. I am always a little hesitant when it comes to fishing in the dark alone. I prefer to hug a shoreline until first light.
When I made it to spot #1, I knew there were trout feeding in the lights, as I heard the infamous pops one after another. I caught a trout on my first cast and the action didnt stop until daylight came. Unfortunately, all of these trout were just under the slot. I probably caught 10-15 fish in 30 minutes.

As things slowed down and the sun started to come up I noticed
TONS of bait moving around. I snapped a short video of the feeding frenzy. I guess there was way to much bait in the water, as I couldnt buy a bite after all those guys showed up! I tried a few different colors of paddle tails and even a spook jr. without getting a bite.

I decided to move on out to the open bay and fish some deeper water. My first cast was met with a thump and a real strong steady pull.

You guessed
BIG UGLY. You know, I never target these guys but they always seem to end up at the end of my line! It sure would have made things easier if I had my abu 6500 and a stiff rod! Once again, it proved to be a good fight on 14lb test and a light action trout rod.
BTW I was throwing a TTF Killer Flats Minnow (muppy glow). You can see the lure in the fishes mouth in the second video. I ended up sticking with that plastic for most of the morning.

I managed a few more small trout from the same spot but couldnt find any big girls.

On a side note, I tried out my buff today for the first time. It took a little bit of getting used to, but it sure was nice to make it back to the launch without a sunburn. This thing is going to be money for winter fishing...

All in all, it was a great morning spent on the water. Tight lines
