I can't believe you guys are not fishing for reds I lived in San Ant most of my life, but I live in Dallas now, man I have dreams about fishing the wall and hooking up with a red even off the bank their are spots you can wade and hit 20 feet of water and get hooked up oh well.

gomezg3: That wall he talks about, you need a boat to get to. It's straight out across from the main boat launch at the very end of that rock jetty that sticks out in the middle of the lake between the two main creek branches. If you go to the concession stand they will give you a map, and just ask them to show you the best spots to fish. They will if they aren't busy. Try that cove right there on either side of the boat launch parking lot. The one where the rent boats are is also good. It used to be an old gravel pit before the lake filled many years ago. There is a lot of structure and snags in that old cove. Also give the area around the high lines a try. There is a patch of lilly pads there, and also many areas of reeds. You can wade out and drop a plastic worm into those pockets of the reeds and get your arms ripped off when one of those hog bass hits your offering. Give it a try! That lake is full of baitfish. Shad, and talapia. Both are plentiful for bait. Get you a cast net to catch your bait, and use the live talapia for the redfish. The shad will work great dead or alive for the cats. Just make sure you have your rod and reels in rod holders or anchored or tied down if you leave them unattended, because you will lose them if one of those big reds are a cat hits.
The area between the dam and the concession is good for reds catfish and hybrids. The cove to the right is good for catfish. The banks and small coves to the right and up to and past are good for bass around the reeds, with catfish also, and near the power lines for the reds. Just keying on those spots should help you catch on a pretty consistant basis. Watch what others are doing around you and you'll learn the best areas in a hurry.
Just one more cast!

I have a friend coming down with his boat to try and catch stripers or redfish and he thinks I might know something about it. I have no experience with it but have heard that trolling at about 20-25 feet of water is best. I HAVE NO IDEA!!! Help, Please

There is an old story that is called, "The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County". Maybe you should use him on your next trip.

gomezg3 if you want a good shot at a redfish grab yourself a nice bunch of crawfish at the entrance store.head to the second boat ramp on the far right side there is a point that goes out a ways.seen sevaral people pull reds from there or you can check this site out www.alamoredfish.com.

If you happen to get on a boat and if you fish the wall try and fish the far right side you will need rod holders, get some rebar and some pvc pipe make your own rod holders if the wind is blowing right use ballons the best thing to do is just get out their and talk to some people on the wall if your bank fishing get their early and try to find some perch or taliapa or shad I like the far right side of the lake wade out and wait good luck.Oh ya and if you make it to the wall take some chicken liver rig up a rod carolina rig use a treble hook with chicken liver drop your bait straight down about 10 to 15 feet usaully if the stripers are around they will hit it if you have reels with bait clickers ingage your reels and use your bait clickers.
