grew up on the 5000 bait caster
im looking for a little more distance little more finnese
i found a shimano baitcaster at PK on side of road first and second rod tips were gone
went over to basspro got another rod and come to find out it had 3 rod tips missing
very nice rod and real
now all my red 5000s seem slow and dragging

never had any problems with these reels so i didnt feel for a change every week a reel came out.

so back to topic
out of the baitcaster
and spinning reels which one is the next step
thinking of a spinning reel for another worm rod
any pics would be nice

BB,

I use spinning gear, as well as baitcasting gear. I will use spinning gear for Ultra-light, Light, and Medium-Light applications. I will also use spinning gear if the wind is up and I need to cast into it.

If I understand correctly you've now got a 5k, and a Shimano that you've found. Can you state what model of Shimano it is?

If it's a good reel then I'd recommend a 2500 series Shimano, or Daiwa spinning reel with a Light, NOT ultra-light, rod. It would be a nice addition to your angling arsenal.

i have been using ambs.5000s for years
not to keen on the 5500 or the 3600
went back to the 5000
then found a shamano curado SF at pk on side of road coiming up out of statepark road from blue fin road

after replacing the rod
the rod and reel is fantastic go to use my 5000s and they dont seem up to par

was back at store today and noticed the
Mitchell 300XE
now that feel pretty smooth to me now to some they have the creme de la creme
but the mitchell 300xe spinning reel would seem to make a great worm rod

Call me a dinosaur, but I will stick to the round reels, 4600 and 6500

I grew up fishing the 300s and still have two. They are good reels. I bet they would be fine for what you want to do with them. The XE you mentioned may be an improved version. Mine are just 300s and are 15 to 30 years old. The 300 like the 5000s have been around a long time.

5000's are the standard all are compared to in round reels and even in low profiles. I still use some of mine every time out. Keep them clean and oiled and they will cast a mile. The lower gear ratios are killer for big crankbaits. I use some spinning tackle too but more for finesse type applications. I still have my 30+ year old Mitchell 300 but rarely use it. I use Shimano spinning reels and all are 4000 series size. I like the Spirex the most because of the double handle. There are advantages to spinning tackle for some things, esp. when a light bait like a tube has to be precisely placed, etc. American Eagle Rods from Tulsa has a complete line of bass rods with some killer spinning rods. Check them out at www.americaneaglerods.com
