Standing timbers? hmmmmmm...
I think Jerry would be the tree-ologist (one funky word I just thought of out of the blue so don't be searching for it in Webster)
As best I can add is....Most of our bodies of water are man-made. Think of a huge undeveloped piece of land with full of live trees which happened to be in low laying area. Once the dam is constructed to hold water to make a lake, these trees would remain in tact with the exception of certain areas of trees being cleared out to create a clear path which often referred as "boat lane". So if you see any dead tree in the water, it is known as "standing timber"

Note: Not all lake have standing timbers, and not all standing timbers are created equal, so will hold fish, others don't. When one spends enough time in the water, he/she will be able to recognize which is which most of the time.
Once again, Jerry would be much better at pointing out which tree to fish and which tree to skip...

Good luck!

Jacob645 what lake do you fish...as you have told me to find someone that knows the lake..I want to fish your lake..finding someone that knows the lake is hard to do....while using good judgement on the situation I put myself into.

Lake Nacogdoches and Pinkston Lake. When I have enough gas money, I try to make it out to Sam Rayburn!
