Decided to brave the crowds and do some sandie fishing tonight. Waited till around 7 to hopefully avoid at least some of the crazy boats and was crowded but not horrible. Bad part was the boats that were there were especially rude today.

Fortunately, the fishing was on today. We fished from little after 7 till dark and killed them. Stopped counting at about 25 fish. Alot of the 10" ones but some big ones too. Oh and I picked up a nice 2+ pound LMB too! We had to work to find them today but when we did, it paid off. PRobably caught 90% of our fish in one area maybe 100 yards square. Hot spot was near the island but out towards the open lake on a drop off. Caught almost every fish on slabs too right off bottom. Fish were practically laying on the bottom. So much so that you couldn't see them easily on the graph but they sure were there.

Fun day on the water.

bama, I was on the trolling motor and my front depth finder is just a cheap humminbird. I just use it to see structure and depth mostly. I don't even know if it has a zoom feature.

atv, I think the zoom helps show fish when they are hugging the bottom.

atv, my main finder is a humminbird 797 with the gps and the dualscan feature so it has alot of bells and whistles including zoom. My front finder on the other hand is a plain black and white without alot of frills. WOrks fine for finding structure and depth though but some day, I'd like to upgrade it to a good color one.

ATV, are you sure your transducer is sitting level? I don't understand why it would show whats ahead of you. huh Also on the zoom function, if you don't already know it, you can switch between zooming on your map/sonar displays by hitting your pages button twice. That will toggle between the two functions. It only took me a couple of years to figure that out. bang At least thats how it works on my LMS 480.

Oldrock, if your in the market, I bought a Eagle Fishmark 320 a couple months back and I've been very happy with it so far. I bought it on sale at Academy for $119, but I think I saw where they dropped the price to $119. How do you like your 797? Thats w/SI isn't it. Thats what I really want.
