Interesting about the "midday" bite. I'll have to keep that in mind next time we're out on RR. What about dock-shooting? Would that be too shallow of water for "midday"? I would think so, since the water isn't as deep.
We caught em' off trees and brushpiles in 19'-30' of water Sunday AM through lunchtime at RR on Sunday AM.

Here is an equation that has many variables........put the right bait, in front of the right fish, at the right time and you have dinner. I heard that in @1975 at a seminar that Al Lindner gave for walleye in Chicago. BUT, it has stuck with me. The point is finding patterns. Many seasonal. Any input???

I know the bite on timber seems to get better once the sun gets up. Fish scatter, go shallower and feed at night or during cloudy conditions.. Once the sun gets up, they go back to cover. Bp's are the same way. Now they may not be feeding once they go back to cover but will not always pass up a free meal.

Ok summer heat is bad right now but i was on grapevine in febuary going after what ever i could catch pretty much. We keep our boat in a slip, and when we went to get the cover off there was ice on it. we had some ovr alls on with jackets and our regular cloths on underneath. We were out fishing with out any other boats we could see. Now what im wondering is what were YOU guys doing in febuary sitting in home staying out of the cold?

I fish most all day at RR one or 2 days a week. Either under the Bimini or under the bridges and with the breeze lately it hasn't been too bad. Seems to me the late afternoon bite has been better. Bream are driving me crazy in the mornings.

I always thought Crappie were cold weather fish. As fisherman, we are prone to lie! LOL just kidding.

I did not know that crappie would hit a banana. That is certainly interesting... Do they need to be green? On to the question. When you only have a few times a month to fish, you go when you have the opportunity.

I catch crappie no matter what the temp. I use a wide brim straw hat that keeps my head in the shade and with a small breeze you can handle the high temps. As for the fish it doesn't matter if you're fishing docks, trees, or bp's the fish are there. I see some guys saying they start bitting at certain times, I think it's that they weren't on a good spot. If you go to a good spot first then you catch them quickly if you go to the good spot last then you catch them later. I've always said if you arn't catching them you arn't on them, move and find them. GoodLuck CrappieMaster

We caught em' off trees and brushpiles in 19'-30' of water Sunday AM through lunchtime at RR on Sunday AM. I had a meeting today and went out after we were done. I hit the water at 3pm. How hot did it get today. I trailered up with 13 fish and caught 1 in 6' of water. I just tossed a jig toward a stickup and thought a bass hit it. Yes it was a good solid keeper! Got to love it!! It was a bit windy though!!!

This time of the year is the best time to be on the Big Cypress River that feed in to Caddo Lake, the Crappie, Bream and Bass fishing is good. The best thing about it, you can fish in the shade all day long. We were out all day yesterday and the Crappie were coming on live shiners, most of them were 10 to 14" Plan on going back two day next week.
