I've got water in my gas and would prefer not to waste 30 gallons of gas. Can I just put in Heat and add a water/fuel seperator? I have a Yamaha 225 EFI. I'm not sure how much is in there but I'm guessing over a gallon at least. I think I left the gas lid open on my Skeeter and took water over the back when coming off plane.

those fuel-drying additives are mostly methanol, which is like ethanol only worse. Were it mine, I'd siphon it out.

Disconnect your fuel line and pump your bulb until you stop seeing water... that will get some out.

202zx has a blown powerhead because of water in fuel. fuel will sit on top of water, so its gonna be hard to get it out without draining the tanks. definately run a fuel/water seperator- but have a couple extra filters.

Thanks fellas. I pumped out all the gas I could and didn't see any water in it. There is about an inch left in each tank. I'm guessing my water is in there. Gonna take the fuel sender out and see if I can syphon it out.
I added the Heet to it and plan to pump that out too.

I did add a water/fuel seperator but the filter that comes with it is crappy. Does Bass Pro shops sale a good filter. I read that Yamaha recommends a 10 micrcon filter. Do they sale Racor?

We've seen more water in fuel tanks in the last 3-4 months than we've seen in the last 2 years combine.

Just make sure you get all of it out, or otherwise you're just going be adding fresh fuel on top of waterlogged fuel.

Here's a suggestion. Fill up on the way BACK from the lake, not on the way to the lake. The reason why, is all tanks in boats must be open air tanks. Meaning they have vents. With the heat and humidity here in North Texas, condensation forms on the top of the tank. Then water drops fall into the fuel. The more moisture in the tank, the worse the senario.

If you keep your tank full, there is less room for air and condensation. So you will end up having less water form.

This is particularly true if you intend to let the boat sit up. Put fuel Stabil in the in system once you top it off and run stable through the entire fuel system. It will keep much better than a half empty tank of fuel.

Friend of mine has a barge he keeps at Palastine. Fuel is in a plastic factory tank. We had to remove a gallon or more of gas water mix before it would start. Went to Villages store and filled up topped tank. Next week same problem. He went to Shipps marine where he bought the rig. They said ethanol(spell)will break down to water if mixxed with reg gas. They want to sell him a filter system to fix problem. Each time I drained a gallon plus water fuel milky [censored]. Any ideas? His barge is in a lighted gated stall. Has cover. Shows no sigh of tampering.

If you can see into your gas tank you should be able to see any water. It is easy to see. I have taken each and every drop out of my tank when I had a tank gasket leaking and then put the gas back in after separating the water from it. Treating that gas with a healthy dose of Stabil or in my case Pri-G would keep any moisture out of the engine. A quick check of my fuel filter/separator confirmed that and I've checked again since then and no water at all.

Scares the dickens out of me.

No! ethanol will attract water but it will not break down to water in regular gas. Milky color must mean pre-mix fuel. You need to figure out where water is getting in the fuel: at station or the fuel tank vent. No one makes a water seperator that will clean out that much water. You most likly did`nt get all of the water out the first time it happened. I see most water problems from getting fuel at a station. Do not buy fuel when you see a fuel tanker at the station. You have to get boat in position that lowest point is at fuel pickup tube, let set for couple hours, then pump out water. Then add Quick Silver fuel dryer. GOOD LUCK

Thanks for the info. The milky water fuel was after the line was pulled from motor and pumped into bucket. Drained the stuff out 3 times. Going Friday morning to pull barge. Plan to drain and pressure check the tank. Can't look in tank as it is clear or yellowed plastic. Bet we find hole or worn spot??? May relocate tank to deck of barge. It is under floor and remains part submerged it water all the time. Thanks again for your input. Looked on line for ethanol in a marine enviro and got lots of ideas?

Pulled the barge this morning. pumped about half a gallon of water fuel out. Motor would not crank this time. Fuel pump was working fine, but would not start. Added fuel thru carb and it would run until added fuel was burned. Any way got the barge to Shipp's marine in Gladewater. The expert there said they have worked on twenty plus boats with the same problem due to ethanol in the gas tank this past week alone. Problem is growing according to him. Says for around $90.00 he can fix the problem. Barge is less than a year old so no big deal. He says older boats with fiberglass or metal tanks are more of a problem as the eth causes tanks to let go of any build up of [censored] it has accumulated over the years. Also it causes the pump bulb to deterioate and release rubber particles into the fuel line. Look online at ethanol in marine enviroment to see problems. Other than that life is great.

Got the barge back yesterday. Shipps Marine claims they drained plastic tank. Had over 5 gallons of water. No clue where it came from. No leak in tank. Owner is going with a steel tank that sits on his deck. Plastic tank is mounted below deck partly in the water all the time. Just one of lifes mysteries?
