One more thing. Can someone explain exactly what the thermocline is and the effect it has?? I am not sure if I really understand it...

the thermocline is the area where the cool deep water and the warm shallow water meet and mix. The cool water is normally oxygen deprived while the warmer shallow water is more oxygen rich. The catch is that most fish prefer cooler water but need oxygen so they will hang out along the top of the thermocline where it is cooler yet still has plenty of oxygen.
How a thermocline occurs is that the sun heats the surface water created warmer water near the surface while the deep water remains relative cooler. Heat rises cold sinks, creating two layers of water. In the fall, as the outside temp gets cooler the shallow water will get cooler than the deep water and will sink will the deep water is nower warmer than the surface water and will rise. This is called the fall/winter turnover
At many lakes the thermocline is in the 25-30 range based on the post on this forum. You can see it by turning up the sensitivity on your fish finder while in deep water and you will see a solid to semi solid line across the graph creating a false bottom of sorts
As far as how to fish the thermocline, the professionals on the forum can better answer that.
Hope this helps

I have been out there a couple times this summer, I have seen seen some schools and caught some small sandies and hybrids. But the the time of day I was there was either late morning or early afternoon. My father said about 7 or 8 pm the "big ones" are really schooling. Last year, I would get out there about 8 am and would catch the heck out of them. This year I had'nt got the chance to get there that early.
