Its been awhile since i've camped Fairfields but i will be camping it at the end of March. I havent fished it the times i have camped there but since im getting back into it i will be fishng it on the trip. Can anyone tell me where the nearest bait shop is to the Lake, or will i need to stop before i get to the lake somewhere. I will be coming from the North. Thanks in advance.

It is slim pickings there in Fairfield itself. A convenience store/gas pumps right before you head out of town sometimes has live bait. If you can, bring what you need as you will have trouble finding anything in town and would be disappointed.

If you are coming down 488 from 287, take 416 right past the RC dam and go to Fisherman's point about 2 miles up the road. They have live bait there.

Yea i've been to Gander MTN several times on trips through there. It is a nice store and cant wait till they get around to opening one around the Metromess.

I know on trips to fairfields before there that i didnt recall seeing any bait shops. I was also thinking i might have to stop at Gander MTN to get what i needed on the way in. Just hope i dont run out of shad while im there. Thats a nice little drive back to the store to get more which cuts into fishing time.....LoL

I'll being come down 45S from McKinney to 27 then up 488 to 2570 then 3250 into the park. So 416 would be out of the way for me kinda. It would be a a closer option if i needed to get more than going all the way to Gander. Are thier any other closer otpions?

I do believe that the last store on the right as you are leaving Fairfield heading toward the lake has bait. It has been a while but I do remember getting bait there before.

Oh wow, what a great site i found the store Hoghunter was talking about. It didnt list it on my GPS though but its off 84 close enough to 488 that it wont be out of the way to much. Thanks for the site, i got it bookmarked.

A casting net is all you ever need at Fairfield, perch and Talipia are plentiful. Worms, frozen shad, and shad gizzards are available at the shell station headed out of Fairfield toward the lake.

Will the casting net be productive off the bank, and if so where abouts. I dont own a boat yet, but do have a casting net.

Cast net right around the main launch ramp is as good as it gets. You should be able to catch plenty of shad with your net and the Red Fish bite them well. If you don't have a boat that won't to be very successful.
Try to be sure you get some crickets before you get to Fairfield. I don't think any place over there has them. They are really good for the Red Ear Bream that are plentiful in that lake. Fish for them from the bank on a point toward the dam from the main launch area.
