Got out aroud 9:30am, saw fish schooling right away on the main lake between 121 and the dam. MANY small ones with some nice sized ones underneath.Tired of playing with the little ones we cruised around the gravel pit and deadmans and saw no fish at all. On the way back to were we started it was on!!! Several schools ontop all over the main lake in open water. It seemed to never end. They started hitting at 11:30 and we left at 2pm with them still coming up all over. The mouse produced a fish on almost every cast, but to get bigger fish we switched to the Bomber 7/8oz slab in white and let it hit the bottom the slowly reeled back up. It was crazy,we fished until we got tired. It was real nice with only 2 other boats in site, no-one ran with the big motor to every school of fish they saw. Ended up with 30 keepers, one hybrid that went 6.6lb and 1LMB that weighed 4lbs. Just finished cleaning them. What a great day!!!!!!!! Guess we caught over 200 fish in all.

Frank, great job, and I had some of the same type of success the last couple of days. Same schooling behavior for two days in a row qualifies as a pattern for me...I just surprised that they were still schooling on top in huge numbers between 11:30-2:00pm in 100degree temps. I fished the same groups of fish between 8:00am and 10:00am the last two days in the same mid-lake area. There are definitely large hybrids under the small sandies if you have the patience to put down a larger bait or slab down deep and not worry about the trees. Today we got 5 hybrids between 5-9 lbs. Yesterday we had a 10 lber caught under the schoolies.

brianDFW, Those are some great fish! My largest hybrids have been caught under similar circumstances this time of year. Thanks for the report, Frank.

We saw a couple of boats in the center of the lake as we were going in, we had some luck but wished we had joined you. Plenty of fish but not many bitting. Seems that there is too much real bate for the fish to eat and lead does not seem to be on the menu. We tried many different combinations but could not get them to take the bait. Last year we had a very similar day when it was very hot, we followed top water action for two hours and lost count of the fish we caught.
Glad you had some success.

Many of the fish we caught today were spitting up shad as we boated them, sometimes as many as 3 or 4 at a time (shad). It amazes me that even though they've got a mouth full, they will still chase a lure.
