I don't really care how you do it, hog hunting is fun. That's a nice one indeed. I am gonna try to bag a couple of 60-100 pounders this year to mix in with a doe or spike for summer sausage and snack sticks. Jalapeno and cheese snack sticks are awesome tournament snacks.

I would like to try that some time. Bring 'em to bay with dogs then wade in and dispatch it with a knife. What a rush. I've seen some websites where they bay 'em with dogs and catch 'em alive by hog tying 'em.

We hog hunt with dogs alot theres nothing better than to see a dog put that nose in the air and catch a scent and take off then the bay take the catch dogs in its never in the open its in the badest briers and creeks we then tiem down and loadem up and takem to ranches that sell hunts to bow hunters to shootem. You had sure better trust your dogs to go in on abig hog and stick a knife in it .I like to take the back strap out and slice it thin and chicken fry it .The rest I dont care for we raise show hogs and a wild hog anint no where close to domestic meat

That looks like a tough hunt in the mud and close quarters! I have hunted and trapped them down in East Texas and have big respect for them. They can flat eat you up. I think that in 2002 there were three deaths caused by wild hogs in Wood county alone. You got brass cojunes my friend...congrats.

I really tried to stay out of this.......here it comes....and I know this hog was shot but many thought it was with a knife....as I did.
Let me say that I grew up in east Texas and I have replaced more bottom strands of barbed wire cause of hogs then most and I have shot and killed with a gun (mostly a 308 ) and a pistol a (colt anaconda iron sites and a Ruger super Blackhawk with a scope) and a bow (a Widow and a Martin) more hogs then you can imagine my best was 19 in one year. Keep in mind all I had to do was go out my back door to find them.
Not to go all crazy but whats the point in using dogs to pin them down and killing the hog with a knife? I suppose I understand that its a rush and it certainly takes a great deal of courage and skill, I thought that by using a bow that I was taking it to the next level, because of the idea of stalking hogs on the ground I came to be a pretty skilled archer won a couple of 3D shoots....
I guess I always was taught that you respect what you kill no matter what it is, and as a hunter and outdoors man anytime I see anything that is from a fringe group (killing hogs with a knife or bears with a spear seem pretty fringe to me) it throws up a red flag...this coming from someone who's main passion is catch and release carp angling, the more outside of the norm a sport is the more it gives people that would take away what we live to do ammo so to speak, what this sort hunting dose is takes away the resource management side of it and makes it a blood sport a kill for the sake of killing idea....
I understand at the end of the day either way you go you have a dead hog....but there is a line there. At some point it's no longer a hunter that is out for food or a person looking to protect property, and when you are killing a animal with a knife I personally think its more to fulfill some sort of strange blood lust or you have to prove to yourself how manly you are....who knows I guess I am just not primal enough to get it.

![[Linked Image]](http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v625/ridinbulls48/bullride.gif) there's always been groups of people that could never see eye to eye, i bet if they had a chance to sit down and talk they would realize they had alot in common--chris ledoux

Actually, many folks use a knife so as to not cause injury or death to a good dog with a pass through or deflected bullet. I'm really sorry of the hog dies a slower more painful death than say a lethal injection. The fact is all wild animals die horrible painful deaths. When they get old or injured they are eaten by an animal higher on the food chain usually while they are still alive. The Disney inspired concept of an elderly animal quietly passing away while surrounded by their little forest friends and family is not how it works in the real world. A knife is not a bad way for a hog to die when compared to a turkey vulture eating it's intestines while it is laying there helpless.

Where is DirtyBass on such a hot topic? I hunted a hog with dogs one time. I stepped in a pile of coyote carp and it ruined my day.
