couldn't resist so me and the boys took the day off and did a bunch of fishing plus waterskiing. Got on water about 6:30 this morning and went looking for the sandies as usual. Tried murell and nothing. Tried bubbles and just a few small ones. Tried marina by dam near tires and just a couple. Then tried island and found the fish. Caught some really nice large sandies on slabs. Also caught small ones on surface.
At around 10am we were getting tired so decided to take a break to eat and then the boys did some waterskiing. Lake wasn't crowded today and winds were light in the morning so great skiing weather. Now here is the funny part. We were skiing around murell park and would you believe we got into a big school of surfacing fish! Of course when I saw that, I immediately stopped the motor and grabbed a rod to catch some. Was pretty funny considering my younger son was still in the water swimming back to boat and my older son and me both were already catching sandies. None of them were large but it was still fun to catch them. By about 1pm, we were all beat so called it a day. Sure is fun catching surfacing fish!

Those are some good days. A couple of years ago, I took my two cousins out who had never caught fish before. We caught fish non stop all day long. We were in some major schoolies with just us and one other boat and they decided they wanted to take a swim. I trolled over closer to shore and they slipped in the water and the schoolies were still going on within casting range. I caught fish and they swam. Right up until the schoolies got a little too close and they didn't like the idea of swimming with the fishies.

Nice report, I look forward to getting out this weekend. Hopefully before all of the knuckleheads get there. Is it me, or are they getting the lake earlier these days?

infamous, I noticed it too. By 9am, the stupid skiers are already getting started. If you start early, you can get in a couple of good hours before it gets crazy. Might as well forget the afternoon on weekends. There will be 50 ski boats and jetskis on the water.

on the lake last Saturday for the TXSBA tournament and about 9:30 a.m. a jet skier decided to turn left and d_ _ n near hit the white nitro and the 2 teenage boys I had with me.
I don't mind them on the water as long as they are courtesy and keep their head on a swivel.

outfitter, we must have run into you at least once or twice today since we hit those same spots today. Sounds like you did good too. Biggest fish or us were on bottom with slabs but the surface action at murall was definately fun!
yankeemike, those skiers and jetskis are crazy at vine. I don't like fishing weekends in summer except for early morning. By 9am they start showing up and by 10am it is nutso.

Well i say if you want to but a jet ski you and your famly must pass the Texas Boater. Ive been threw it twice now and passed it even before i steped onto a boat. It goes threw everything you need to know. It also cover jet ski stuff. Im only saying this stuff to put out my opinoin.
Its not how big or small the fish is, its how many you caught

island probably won't be any good middle of day. Better bet is murell in deeper water or if you are lucky they will be schooling like yesterday. No depth finder will be a big handicap though. Not necessarily to see the fish but at least to find the areas with underwater humps or structure that holds fish.
2nd to what infamous says though the crazy waterskiers will drive you crazy during middle of day.
