I fished RC today and learned several things. The Crappie up to 12" are pretty easy to come by. Big ones are hard to find.
They are pretty picky on what they will hit and depth prefered. Miss the depth by a couple of feet and you miss the fish.

Now the warning: Many area's of the main lake (even in deep open water) have huge stumps a few inches under the surface. BEWARE, GET IN A HURRY AND PAY. There are area's that you can run but you better know where they are. Last week a local Guide knocked his lower unit off in a "Safe area".

See you there Sat.

Here are (2) to stay away from:

N 31 58.385' W 96 11.681'
N 31 57.967' W 96 13.231'

I've been lucky so far ...been running on plane at an area where there were a few stumps just inches under water. This lake scares me more than RR.

Last tourn there I never got off Idle used the trolling motor 90% of the time so I only managed to hit 4 or 5 stumps.
I wish I could go fish this one with you guys. Had reservations at the marina and was ready and someone told my customers that the recession was over.LOL WAY TO MUCH WORK.
Good luck to everyone going and stay clear of them trees.
I am glad to hear about the time change... Heads up thinking on that one.

What Ernest said can't be overstated. I bent a prop in about 40' of water last summer on a stump.

Fishing is not a contact sport.

Ya'll be careful out there.

Keep this one at top at least until tourney day has passed.

I fished that lake two years ago when it was way down. It was amazing how many stumps popped up only 2-3 feet down and some less than that. It was even worse then what was right below the surface when the lake was down. You could see concrete sections of an old bridge about 6 inches under the water by the free boat launch off 287. With the lake at normal level it is not too bad around the main lake. Venture off and slow slow slow with a good pair of eyes up front is the ticket. Or insurance on the boat and motor.

I am trying to figure out how to leave work early today and depending on the time I leave I think I am going to Chambers.

Me and Cecil got bit a year and half ago, after launching from Southport heading basically south, when you get to the lower arm, basically from that point all the way to 45 is dangerous water, now it looks perfectly fine, but when the lake was 10' below pool elv before last summers rains their was no body getting on plain in the area I just describe. Now me and Cecil fish the lake alot, we were fishing a stump field out in the lake got completely out of the stump field 300 to 400 yards from it, I got on it and WHAMO, bent prop shaft that quick, took us about 3 hours to get back to Southport with the tm. Still my favorite lake though.

Just take it slow, and if your in unfamillar waters go even slower.

Good luck with the tourny guys and gals.

Marc

There were no boating lanes cut when this lake was made. Had the opportunity to fish it soon after it was opened in the 90's. It was basically a flooded forest. Even on the mainlake between 287 and the south shore line there is a line of trees running from the middle of the bridge south past the dogleg and the island! There is a monster stump sitting a few feet below the water line on the ESE corner of the dogleg in about 35'. When visible it was 4-5' diameter at the top with several prop ears sticking out of it! Be very careful anywhere besides the mainlake body!!
