Has anyone tried the Gulp soft plastic [mini] earthworms for Bluegill/Sunfish? http://www.lakemichiganangler.com/store/Berkley_Gulp_Mini_Earthworms.htm Can they hold a candle to the real-deal? From what I can see, they look pretty darn close. I'm going to target some sunfish this weekend and was thinking of buying a package and giving them a whirl.

My experience with them is that they work, but only for a few casts and then the fish figure it out pretty quickly. Whereas with a real worm you can go and go and go.

I've been using this bait exclusively the past couple of weeks. It seems to be working ok. I can catch several fish on one single piece. I seem to catch more fish using smaller chunks of the worm. I've also caught cats on this bait. Granted, alot of the fish I've caught were pretty aggressive, but so far I'm very impressed with Gulp! Earthworms. Nothing comes closer to real worms except....real worms. wink

I'm going to give them a shot. We're targeting crappie at my boat slip, but I wanted to take one of my kids poles out and give this a shot under a bobber and see what happens.

Quite honestly, I kinda hate the mess that comes with real earthworms. I've got a nice system down to where I can catch fish over and over again with the same live worm, but if I can bypass the mess and do even almost as good, I'm all for it. wink

my experience has been the same.

they are equally effective as worms for that short period though, so they are totally fine in places where the beds only have a few fish and you move on.

They are nice for having on those days where sunfish are needed to save a trip...

Still having great success with this bait. One small jar has lasted a lloonngg time. No matter where I fish at, ponds, rivers, lakes, this bait will catch Bluegills, Sunfish, all day long.

Thanks for posting this ... I'd never heard of these but will certainly give them a try. I have nephews and nieces coming in a couple of weeks and this may be an ideal test for me.

I have tried 4 types of Gulp! baits
RANKED BEST TO WORST

1)earthworm in the jar- i have had the best success with these.
one inch piece under a bobber will catch bluegill, redear, and channel cats

2)shrimp tiger color in bag- channels cats from a pond and redfish up to 29 inches, i heard it is the got to artifical in the bays for trout and reds. i would guess that it would work on bluegill if cut into small pieces. i use frozen shrimp at times and it works ok.

3&4)nightcrawler and liver from a bag- this was three years ago so i dont know if the flavor has changed but the only way i could get consistant bite was to cut them the size of fish pellets that were fed in the pond. channels, bluegill and about 95% sure i was catching tilipia on the pieces.

Overall the only thing that beats the real thing is the real thing. The only Gulp! i recommend buying is the earthworm in the jar if u dont want to be messy or i would go with the real thing. Shrimp Gulp! for the bays because what i have caught and what people say about it working so well. Liver and nightcrawler must improve from my last purchase or it will never be purchased again by me.

I've used both the Gulp! Earthworms and Maggots with great success (Natural Colors only). I like that when I'm done for the day I can just screw the cap back on and throw them in my tackle box; that and my wife doesn't mind baiting her own hook now. Real worms were to gross for her.

I give'um a thumbs up.
