Hey guys,

Does anyone have any guide recommendations for fly fishing for Steelies in Oregon? My wife and I are headed to the west coast for a couple of weeks and I'll be in the Portland area for a couple of days. Seattle recommendations are ok as well if you have one.

We're gonna spend some time on hwy 101 also so coastal fly fishing maybe a option also.

My wife said that my suvenoir should be some newer t-shirts. I told her I needed a picture of my holding a 10 lb steelie I caught.

Hey do both...then post the pics here.......hehehe. One of these days I am gonna get these kids grown up, and I'm heading to the mountains in the Northwest area of the US. Heck, maybe even on to Canada if the bottom doesn't fall out here.

Kauffman's.....Been around forever and are experts on the Steelhead in the Portland Area. You might ask them about the Kalama river. It is about 45 minutes North of Portland and has a pretty decent steelhead run. Also good highway access to the river along it's length. Have fun.

If you have time, there is some pretty good trout fishing just east of Salem near Detroit Lake. Three nice little rivers feed the lake.

The best is definitely the Deschutes near the Eastern Ore. town of Maupin. This may be a bit too far for you though.

Let me add this...if you are driving up the coast....take a detour over to the Klamath Falls area of Southern Oregon. The Williamson river is an awesome trout stream. You should be able to find a guide if you do a google search.

The drive from K-Falls to Bend is one of the prettiest in the state. Just west of Bend is the Metolius River and Camp Sherman..worth a visit.
