I'm going up that way to take a friend crappie fishing. He has just recently had heart surgery and hasn't been able to do much. As a matter of fact, he doesn't fish much at all. I just thought it would do him good to get out and catch a few fish. Is Athens worth it, or should I haul him to Cedar Creek? He lives near Canton and I don't normally fish that area at all.

Yeah, I've fished it several times. Gin clear water...very pretty lake. Only one boat ramp, and the grill there at the ramp has some very good food.

There are docks and brushpiles on the lake. Docks are all too shallow for crappie this time of year. Most all main lake points have brush on them in 15-20'

straight out from the boat ramp are some brush piles, I see guys fishing alot at night during the summer. you should be able to graph them pretty easy. Also the fellow that runs the bait shop is always willing to give up information, and most of the time he tells the truth.

Don't forget the crickets. If crappie don't bite, giant bluegills and redears are always willing to give it up.

I've done alot of bass fishing on Athens but only just recently started fishing for bream and crappie. I've been trying to find someone to go with to show me a few tips in that department.

Sure is, he recently had 5 bybasses..........I'm going up to his place for a couple days next week. He is starting to get around a little, so we are going to make some short trips. Good to hear from you Coachmas.

Due to a change in a meeting at work, I never got to east Texas until last night. We got out this morning late and took me awhile to find decent cover, but got a real nice bunch....with only 1 throw back!!! Heading back out tonight and hope to get some more!! Pictures to come when I get home!!
