Can anyone give a report if they are schooling yet, and if so what time of day and where?

fished monday 07/07/08 . went about 8:00pm . drove around looking for fish . got 3 hundred yards out from isle de bois park in 67 ft of water. thought my dephthfinder was broken. my 11yoa son threw 1st cast. caught 1st fish. thats a good sign. caught a few more dinks and went north of isle de bois about 1/2 mile up until another point juts out. saw some boats . waited n the action was on. mostly dinkys but had few nice keepers if you can get your lure down before the dinks get them....fished at night but didnt have a fishing light, slow fishing . in all caught 30 fish for abt 3 hours of fishing. fish hitting anything shiny --- lol .

We got them going on top today on the west arm. All on top. it was some fun for my clints they caught fish on nearly every cast. We caught at least 200 in about 3 hours I couldn't keep up with the total numbers caught but we limited with our 50. We caught a lot of small ones but we also got a bunch of nice ones as well. I thought at one point they were going to eat my boat LOL. Good luck lots to be had.

are there any specific areas, or just the west arm in general? The only place we've ever caught sandies in RR is around wolf island on the bottom...

KLA,
Try between the marina and Culp Island for schools on top. There are shallow flats, ridges, dropoffs, and humps in that area - - it's a big area, just explore - - large schools of sandies on top alot of times. Then move out a bit deeper to structure with slabs when they go down. I may try to make it out there Sun AM.

Love that quote from Cliff :
"I thought at one point they were going to eat my boat LOL."

Never do card tricks for the group you play poker with.

The area that Launcher400 is talking about was one the spots we fished. It had a very large school of fish but most were smaller fish. The other area is barn house point some people call it long point just north east of the Pond Creek ramp. The fish were in 6 to 8 foot of water. This was the largest group of sandies I have seen this year and with some good size ones.

thanks "Cliff S" for info on the barn . Ive been there earlier last year and did ok . We were fishing with slabs and my son had a small shiny ghost minnow type lure tied above 1/2 ox weight . all small fish were on top with larger fish below. fish were schooling all over the place , just had to find them. Ray Bob is a big lake so make sure you got a full tank of gas- lol.

thanks for all the info guys! The smaller fish don't bother me. My dad is finally getting to enjoy "some" free time away from work and to see him pulling them out left and right, like we did one time last year, it doesn't matter to me if we keep any or not, it's just the enjoyment on his face that makes the day!!
