I noticed my sticker is outdated on my boat. It's the one that goes in front of the state and numbers on the hull. It's square and has the year and month on it with color code.

Anyway, I can not find or recall ever getting any letter on this. Where do I go or who do I call to get this updated? This is my first time having to deal with this.

Thanks in advance.

You're local county tax assessor's office should be able to do the renewal for you, but call ahead...Or go to your local TWPD office and to the registration there...If it's less than 16 feet, it's $30 for the 2 year sticker or if it's 16-26 feet it's $50.00.

Here are the 2 closest locations to Grand Prairie...

Fort Worth 5400 Airport Freeway, Suite E, Fort Worth, TX 76117; 817/831-3128

Garland 346 Oaks Trail, Suite 100, Garland, TX 75043; 972/226-9966

County tax collector will not and can not renew boat tags. they can do trailer tags. You will have to go to TPWD for boat registration.

Where can I get my boat registration/title and outboard motor title processed?

The forms must be completed and submitted together with any required application fees, supporting documents, and any boat/outboard motor taxes due to:

Texas Parks and Wildlife Headquarters in Austin or
any of the 27 Texas Parks and Wildlife Law Enforcement field offices throughout the state or
any participating Tax Assessor-Collector Office (Contact your local tax office to confirm that they process boat registration/titles.).

Am I going to have to do this each time? Was I supposed to get a letter on this?

If the boat is in your name and you haven't moved since putting it in your name, then yes you should have received a notice from TPWD.

You'll have to do this every two years...

TPWD doesn't just issue renewals because you have a boat and you need one. Registration renewals are sent to the owner of record or someone designated by the owner of record. The person's name on the title. If you bought the boat used without the title that is the first problem you will need to resolve.

Hays county quit doing the tpwd thing. They said that 60% of the paperwork came back and then they had to notify the people, do it before the 20 day thing, provide added paper work, and bottom line it turned into a cluster smuck. Some of the reasons for returned paperwork was: failure to cross a T or dot an I. or Jon Doe signed Jon D. Doe on one piece of paper. I don't blame them for quitting, mainly because TPWD has no sense of humor about paperwork.

It took 10 minutes and 8 of that was in line. Traffic on 35W was a different story. I went to the Fort Worth office(excuse to visit Cabela's) and they were very helpful. You do have to be the person on the title for the boat and you have to have an ID as well as your hull numbers. $50 bucks for a 17.5 boat and they only take cash or check, no credit cards.

I asked about receiving a letter, she said I was supposed to but this year there have been an exceptional number of people that didn't get one or claimed they didn't get one. Her office seemed to think Austin was especially failing to send them to first time re-registrations like myself.

My reply was I never saw one and my wife does not recall seeing one either. Since she's 3 months pregnant; I'm not stupid enough to keep asking my wife if she is sure.

Thanks again gentlemen.
