Saw a thread for Tawakoni so I decided to go ahead and put a report in for the last week or so. I've been mostly on Tawakoni for the last week staying with my fiance and don't have internet but here's a pretty good summary... The fishing has been really good. The morning bite seems to get better as the sun comes up. Last week the fish were schooling around the shallow humps by 6:30, this week its getting later and later - close to 8am. Hang in there and wait 'em out. I have been finding an early topwater bite in the shallow flats around Tall Man at the crack of daylight, but its mostly sandies. A good hour later they are starting to school around those same flats and Sun Point. Most of the birds are gone, but look for the heron and pelican - they are working the lake pretty well. Some schools wont even have birds working them so you have to keep a keen eye with the glasses just looking for splashes. Then you will find a mix of hybrid in with them. Try to upsize your bait in the schools to key in on hybrid. They are starting to move to the deeper Summer holes and stack up during the middle of the day out of Wolf, Cloud and off Sun Point, 1oz slabs in white and chartreuse will do fine when you find them. The afternoon bite is awesome! Stay in and don't bother getting out till around 7pm. About 3 days in a row we got into a school of hybrid right before dusk. Nothing huge, but all keepers. Lots of chunky 5lb fish. We had probably over 40 keeper hybrid between 3 guys in an hour the other night. Thats the best day I've seen this year. About the best advice I can give right now is if you want to catch hybrid - find the fish and change to a larger bait. I keep 3 different sizes of sassy shad and slabs on the boat. You will find that the sandies will knock the fire out of the larger baits, but not get the hook. You just have to keep the bait in there long enough and a hybrid or striper will find it! My lower unit came apart on me this morning. Haven't hit anything in a long time, but I guess when its time - its time! Busted the case, so its toast. Luckily my buddy has a seldom used boat that is newer and bigger than mine so we're still in business. Man, it is good to have people you can count on! Thank you Brian!!! Gonna be on Hubbard tomorrow then back on Tawakoni Tuesday - Friday. Omar and me are gonna work together Wednesday and hopefully use some of the "Luck o' the Irish" Mojo on them! Gonna be a fun week, good luck and good fishing - Matt!!!

that's a great report lake guide- did not get to fish more than a couple of hours this long weekend

KP, what kinda boat are you in? I've been looking for ya out there. Went up the the Greenville pump hump a few times in the last few weeks and wondered if you were out there.
I'm gonna be in a 23' grey Express for the next week or so, swing by and give me a shout if you are on the water!

Here's a toad my buddy caught yesterday evening. It was his first hybrid ever, and his first topwater fish ever. It grabbed his spook about four feet from the boat, then commenced to peel off about 100' of line. One of the better Hybrids I've sen come out of the lake this year. I had no scale, but I guess it between 8-10 lbs. The pic really doesn't do the fish justice. It had some serious shoulders! So far this year when we find them busting the top, late, we've been throwing Zara Spook Jr's at them, and catching more Hybrids than sandies. The sandies will beat up on the spook, and some do get a hook, but the Hybrids typically get to the lure before the sandies get a hook in them. Makes for a lot of fun without having to mess with unhooking the sandies. Jay

Me and Omar fished with the Fuentes family last night. The fishing is still on fire on Tawakoni! We sat side by side from 6:30pm till dark in a pile of schooling Striper, Hybrid, and sandies. Omar's guys had a couple 7-8lb pure striper and mine had a couple hybrids that size, both had several other keepers as well. We cleaned fish till after 10 last night and went home wore out!!
Sure had fun teaming up with Luck O' the Irish yeaterday! It's good to have someone you are confident in to work with on these bigger groups, and Omar can put you on 'em! Thanks again!

Nice fish Jay The best areas to look are out in front of Tall Man or Holiday. Not a lot of birds on the water, so scan the lake with glasses looking for slashes. The big fish are mixed in with the sandies, so try to use a large slab or a 4-6" sassy and keep the bait under the schools or on the bottom to rake in a biggun!
