I think the only thing to be concerned with cranking with Fluoro is the lack of stretch.

Not stretch after the hook up but stretch when casting.

I have snapped it on the cast on bigger baits. Especially if you get any kinks in the lines etc.

May be the way I cast.

I struggle with the Lb test thing as well. I have been using Mono lately and 12Lb P line CXX is pretty strong stuff.

Texas Husker, The website for Hiseas is http://www.hiseas.net/ . If you want the best flourocarbon on the market, they have that too.
Stacey Dude, If you're breaking off during the cast on flourocarbon it very well could be you're knot. You can't use a palomar knot on flouro because it diggs in too tight and burns the line causing it to easily break. Same with the improved cinch knot. All of the Elite guys use a San Deigo Jam knot for flourocarbon. Once you've seen it tied it's a very easy knot and quick to tie without breakage. I don't know why but they say don't use it on any other line, but it suppose to work the best on Flouro. I've been using it for a few months and haven't had a single break off since.

It has broken on the line and I have been able to retrieve the crankbait to find the knot still in tact.

I do need to learn that San Diego Jam I think I have it on my bookmarks through animated knots.

Good idea.

I have actually used Braid for cranking and rattle traps and spinnerbaits in the past and I do not think it caused me to loose any fish. I think that has alot to do with the rod.

Regards

Cast&blast, I agree with you when you say stacy's problem with break offs is at the knot. However, I fish Flourocarbon all the time, there are many lures that I wont throw without flourocarbon, and I use nothing but the palomar knot. I only had a problem with the break offs when I first started trying to throw flourocarbon and it is all about "how" you tie the knot.

When tieing on to Flouro., you just have to remember to take it slow and use lots of lube (spitt). Also, make sure that your line is not too old, because flourocarbon gets very brittle if you leave it on too long.

I have only had 1 break off, that I can remember while using flourocarbon with a palamor knot. This breakoff came at Falcon. The fish was a "Falcon" 6 lbs, and had my 12 lb flourocarbon wrapped around heavy brush. Other than that, no problems, and I fish several times a week.

If flourocarbon line gets a nick or kink in the line that is a weak spot and will usually break there. Knots have also been a problem with flouro. if you do not tie them correctly. A palomar knot will work just fine with flourocarbon but you have to tie it CORRECTLY. Here is how to do it.....

I think if you read what I posted earlier you will see I stated I have retrieved the bait to find the knot intact.

I think the line may have gotten kinked and Fluorocarbon line does not like kinks.

I have also popped it during hooksets (My fault I am sure as I used to crank the drag down to tight)

Awhile back Tackle Tour did a big Fluorocarbon line test and the knot they used was the Palomar knot. I believe they found the Palomar knot was not as good as they thought it would be at holding.

I think that the San Diego Jam knot is a good one for Fluoro. When you read about it the knot does not tighten up on itself like others during heavy use.

I reckon if it is good enough for Tuna wranglers it must be a decent knot. I am going to start trying it out.

I'm with McSkeeter. I use the flouro and use only the palomar knot. Plenty a spit is key. I take pride in never losing fish due to knot breakage.
