started much the same as day before. small schools and boats everywhere...wind helped a little bit.pulled around 9 keepers on TW before putting em up...but the slab bite a little later was killer.some real nice ones mixed in with solid box fish and left them tearing it up. love burning those slabs.such a great strike...as we motored past several schools i said "watch em grow" biggest fish 6 1/2lbs decided to try starting late today because thats been where the good bite is for me...

OK, I've always heard about burning slabs. What exactly are you doing?
Never fished slabs much at all. If you mark a school of fish, do you just stop and start chunking?

G- concept... Drop slab...reel up as fast as you can... TIP-(make sure that you know how deep you went...because it is something else watchin' that thing come flying straight up outta the water!!!!) Hope that helps! J.J.

I've never had luck burning slabs. I talk to others who do it all the time but never seems to work for me. I catch almost every slab fish on the fall while jigging so always end up doing that with a slab. I guess I should decide to stick with burning them one day till I finally break the jinx.

I've tried several color slabs but used white or chartruse the most. I've tried burning for maybe 30mins but then give up and go back to jigging them. Is there another color that people usually use when burning?

no rules but generally 1.5 to 2oz slabs. silver seems better on most sunny days and painted on cloudy but last 3 days have been plenty sunny and they want painted big dakotas. i use both with and without buckhair. graph the fish in deep water drop beneath them and reel as fast as you can. let me repeat "as fast as you can". i like 4600 and 5500 reels for this style of fishing but if someone is struggling put a 6/3/1 reel in their hands. yes straight up and down...you don't have to go to the bottom just beneath the active fish. careful it comes up quick. also sometimes different retrieves like rip, rip, rip pause repeat will trigger strikes. also the graph should be blacked out or and least filled with marks at several different depths. last few days when i marked em from 10-40 in 60ft it was game on. yes mario the new color works but texoma special, white & chartreuse been doing it better.
