I have a Triton with a 250 Mercury Racing addition, love the engine but I know these need to be serviced after so many hours. Does anyone have any advice. How often do these engines need to be serviced and what all does "serviced" include? Does anyone know a good place to take it (in North Texas area around north Ft Worth)that charges a reasonable price and does a quality job?

Actually it is my brothers so I am helping him out; he bought it used and the guy did not explain all the details to him. The last 2 boats had Suzuki motors and they required very little service. The dealer he has talked to gives him the run around and makes promises but does not deliver. Called Mercury directly and spoke with them but I was just trying to get some local info if possible.

Mr. Scales - people post their questions on the forum seeking answers, not to get smart arse responses that belittle them or that attempt to show how superior you think you are. From your post count you seem to be fairly new to the forum. You might want to reconsider what you're posting before you hit the submit button. welcome

I will second Opti for your area because they really need to know what their doing on this motor because they need rings about every 25 hours and you ca`nt use anything below 93 octane fuel(some are using 100 octane aviation fuel) with double oil. They have single low tension piston ring`s that are designed for going fast not for lasting very long. On and on. I know guys around Austin that have 1-2 extra powerheads and lower units so they can keep running while one is being repaired. Going fast will be very expensive habit. Have buddy with one of these and he says just playing he will burn 35-40 gallons of $5 per gallon fuel in less than 2 hours on the water. GOOD LUCK

There is no purpose to this guy's posts. Check out his other replies. Generally just rude and unhelpful responses. That will be one person I choose not to help.

[/quote] realmad We really don't need or want anyone that is that much superior to the rest of us!! Unless this guy changes his manners a little, he will not even get the time of day from this old man! opti is the right choice due to gas prices!
