Many people don't realize that some of the best fishing spots are right in their back yard per say. I recently fished my favorite golf course and had great success as usual. Golf courses are often overlooked as good fishing spots. I guess many think that the small lakes of a golf course can't have much fish or any at all, but o-contrare. I recently yanked a 5 pounder along with many other hard fighting bass from my local course. Not only do most All golf courses have bass, Perch and catfish, but they are all underfished or not fished at all. Golf Courst Bass are not lure shy either because they rerely see them. The small lakes of a golf course are easily fished and most of the time overly stocked. I would suggest talking to the golf pro to make sure that he, or she, doesn't mind you fishing there. Also make sure that you pick a lake that isn't in the danger zone of flying golf balls. Pick a lake where the tee-off is and you'll be safe there. Next time you want to go fishing but don't want to go far, especially with gas prices, head to the nearest golf course and have a blast. If you have any golf course fishing stories i'd love to hear them. Good Fishing and God Bless!!

Better make sure I'm not not the golf course, because my ball is attracted to water. It might be dangerous.

When I was a kid my friends and I would go to the local golf course and use a pencil with some fishing line tied around it. For bait we used these yellow balls that were probably for catfish or carp. The bass would take them just fine. Like you said - they are not shy.
One day we got caught fishing and they took us to the clubhouse and took down all of our info. They said they were going to call our moms but they didn't. I think the golfers probably reported us because we were fishing right next to the green and they were getting POed because they were afraid they were going to hit us. This was back in the 70s and there were some pretty comical outfits on those old golfers. We had a good time laughing at them and catching bass.
One of my friends kept one of the fish and we took it to his house. He put it into the freezer to clean and eat later. I bet his mom was pretty mad at him.
So I would have to agree with Bass Phantom - lots of fish, easy to catch, get permission if you can (hide if you can't).
Good memories.

Retrieved my son one night at the Odessa Country Club from the Sheriff's Department. He was in Junior High at the time. Sheriff was jealous and laughing about it, son caught a bass between 8 and 9 lbs. Even in dry West Texas those golf course ponds can be productive. Loves fishing to this day and some of it can be traced to the golf course fishing that day. **Does not play golf, but I still see him visiting the golf course with his friends as an adult, "What is that about?".

I lived in Odessa from '78 to '88 and had several friends who fished the Country Club pond right along Hwy 80 close to Pinky's liguor store. They regularly hauled out some big ones from that pond. Members could fish but they would call Sarge Brookshire in a heartbeat if they saw anyone else on the pond!

Was playing in a scramble golf tourney at Canyon West (near Weatherford) last year and saw a bunch of bass in the lakes. The tourney was playing slow, so would have had time for some fishing if I had just been prepared . . . . . maybe I should look on eBay for one of those old Popeil Pocket Fishermans . . . . . or just replace my 3 iron with a rod (can't hit the damn 3 iron anyways).

I have a favorite golf course that seems to have bass in only two or three ponds on it. One I can't get to. I fish it at night, because that way nobody to complain. I can understand about golfers getting upset if anybody is anywhere NEAR where they're hitting, because they might just hit like me. Some of my balls go pretty wild. I once saw Tiger Woods slice a ball off completely onto the next fairway and have to hit it back over the trees onto the right fairway. (Believe it or not, he made par anyway.)

When I lived on Long Island (NY) about 30 years ago, I was a confirmed (and still am) fresh water fisherman, surrounded by Salt Water. I started fishing one of the local golf course water hazards and caught some good fish out of it. I was talking to one of my friends at work and mentioned that I could see some bass working along a weed line I just could not cast to. He suggested we use his dingy to fish it. The next day we were fishing the hazard, and every so often I would hear what sounded like a bass blasting a shad on the surface. Every time I would turn around and see the ripple, I would cast in that area for awhile but could never seem to get a bite. After about 20 minutes of that, I just happened to look up toward the tee box and we saw a couple of our buddies just laughing their butts off. They had been hitting balls to the hazard and watching us turn around and cast to the spot where their ball had landed....Moral of the story, if you are going to fish a golf course, make sure you don't tell your "friends". That being said, my father in law lives in a golf course development on the Lake of the Ozarks, and every time we go up there I spend all my time catching hundreds of little bass...A great place to try new lures....

What I always wonder about after fishing my local golf course pond and catching 20 to 35 bass that range from 1lb to 5lbs is why I spend the money to fish these big lakes and never put more that 15 bass on any day!!

Best fish of my life came from a golf course...11 1/2 pound LMB. I could tear them up all day long in those golf courses, pob could have caught them with a dirty sock they would hit anything out of the tackle box.

Me and my 3 boys fish the ponds in Mckinney alot caught this pig I think in April, because of the gas prices I pretty much stay around the house now to fish it's just 2 miles to the pond and around 15 to 20 miles to the lake, but it looks like the gas prices are going down now. But I like the pond fishing lots of fun.

Most courses I have fished set aside a day a week for maintenance...often Monday. That's the day I like to be there. I also like to buzzbait these ponds at night...deadly. I've had 60 fish days on a couple of golf courses. Fishing when people are golfing is a sure way to have the course posted to fishing...insurance companies don't like pedestrians in the line of fire. My mom and baby sister both live on a golf course and over the years we have stocked all the ponds and caught bass up to ten. I suspect the day will come when these courses will begin charging for the fun, but till then we just make sure to pack out what we packed in, park so we don't disturb others, and enjoy ourselves. And the best part is...no BASSCAR tournaments blasting around us! -- Cordially, Larry Lynch www.RoseCapitalRealty.com * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * "If I fished only to capture fish, my fishing trips would have ended long ago." -- Zane Grey
