Fished R.C. Friday night with a couple of greenlights in about 25 ft. of water. Got tied up at 9:30 and put the lights out. Took about an hour before the shad started showing up in numbers then the sandbass started showing up. My buddies used jigging spoons and little georges while I used white feather crappie jigs. By about 11:00 it was steady bites and had limits(75) by 12:30. After that catch and release until about 1:30. Also had a catfish line out using shad. Fished with it out about 20 yards from the light and picked up some eating size blues. Went back to the dock and cleaned fish at 1:45 because buddies had to go home. I went back out on a point in about 10 ft. of water and anchored up and caught about 10 more blues nothing big just good eaters. About 4:30 I used a life vest for a pillow and snoozed until about 6:00 A.M. and found some schooling sandies and had more fun. ALL you fisherman that have kids need to try that greenlight fishing. The temp. is cool and the kids would have a blast looking at the THOUSANDS of shad swimming around the boat plus its vertical fishing so they will not have to know how to cast. Just push the button on their snoopy reel and catch fish! Good luck if you try this!! Craig

how deep do you put the lights? are the lights up near the boat or down deep? I have three lights, one is a green flourescent tube, another is a green tube with a spotlight at the bottom, and the last one is a floating headlight in styrofoam.
which is best kind? I am trying to learn how to use them to catch some fish...any and all tips are really appreciated!

i plan on doing this as well in a few weeks but haven't bought the lights yet.

i've seen several places selling the lights - flouescents and LEDs - not sure which is better. also, how are the lights hooked up to your battery source? do you carry an extra battery and just hook up the lights directly to it?

We put the lights about 1 ft. under water just enough to clear the bottom of the pontoon. We used two different kinds of lights. We bought one light at Academy that is LED light inside tubes with a reflector built in the tubes. The other light we got at Gander Mountain in Corsicana, it has a bulb inside a plastic sleeve that you can change the color to green, red,or white. This light sinks the LED light floats so we added a weight to it. Had them on each side of the boat and could not really tell which side had more shad. If you have never done this you will be amazed at the number of shad and you wonder why they are hitting you lure with so much to eat. Kinda crazy all the shad swim clockwise around the light like Indians circling the wagons. The lights have clips on them to hook up to your trolling motor battery. They don't use much battery just make sure if you have a 24 volt system you use the same battery for one light. Hope this helps. Have fun!!! Craig

i assume i have a 24 volt system - 2 tm batteries.

what do you mean by - "make sure if you have a 24 volt system you use the same battery for one light"

if i have two lights do i need to hook up each one to a seperate battery or can both go to the same battery?

also - this may be a stupid question but if i have 3 batteries how can i verify which one it the cranking battery and which 2 are for the tm? all three are under the rear compartment lid.

The trolling motor batteries will be linked together in series. That means that one cable will be running from a neg. pole on battery 1 to the pos. pole on battery 2. Then a cable will be coming off the pos. pole on battery 1 and a cable will be coming off the neg. pole on battery 2. That will make the two batteries putting out a full 24 volts for your 24 volt TM plug. Hook the lights (if you have two lights) to these batteries, one light to battery number 1 and the other light to battery number 2. Red to positive and black to negative. That way it will drain each battery close to the same amount. Good luck!!!!!!!!!

I ran 2 lights at the smae time off of 1 trolling batterie saturday night and they worked fine. You are right about the shad, had alot of perch below the shad and some Monster crappie we caught below them. If you have 2-trolling batteries that is a 24V set-up.

I go the erally cheep route and hang a high baeam head light off each cleat of my boat(4). this works awsome. I just buy 2 cheep batterries and use my 2 TM's also. works like a champ!

How do you find the fish r do they find you. Do you just look for a hump or something?

We tied up to the 287 bridge close to a creek channel in about 25-30 ft. of water. There was not much sign of fish on the graph when we started but after about a hour the graph was black from 0-20 ft with shad then the white bass moved in. I would think if you could find white bass on top like they are doing now at R.C. for about 45 minutes before dark and anchor there and put out the lights you would probly get into action sooner and kill them since they are already in the area chasing shad. Just my thoughts. Good luck!! Craig

We caught some cats also while catching the whitebass. We had our catfish set up and would put a shad on and cast it out away from the direct light about 20 yards and kept a eye on it while catching whitebass. I do not really think wind/chop would have any effect on the fishing. I'm going to try and do it again Sat. night. No need to apoligize for questions. We are all trying to get better at catching fish. Lots of good fisherman on this forum that likes helping out. Good luck!! Craig

We bought a green light recently. The tips say to fish outside the light area. Sounds like you may be fishing in the "light". Are you, and is that you suggestion. Gonna try it this weekend. Also did it attract any hybrids??
Thanks

Bob
I appreciate the TFF.
