i had this same problem with one of my trolling motors. it was a chip in the lower unit that had to be replaced. i replaced mine 3 tmes at 100 dollars a pop. motorguide said it was caused by a leak in the seal and when and if i pulled the motor to get grass off and dropped the motor back in the water with the motor running that is when it would happen. the motor would run on high bypass but nothing else. my motor was 10 years old finally got motorguide to take a look at it and they sent me a new trolling motor at no cost. motorguide told me this was a big problem with there dura-amp models but that they had fixed this problem. told me to send the motor in and they would fix it with the new parts but as stated above they just sent me a new motor. give them a call you may get a new motor out of the deal but would not buy a minn-kota.

Thanks for the help so far. I'll have to do my homework and research this for the most cost effective remedy. Sounds like a lot of choices and I kinda hate to jump in and start trouble shooting this and trouble shooting that. Any shops in my area that work on Motorguides (other than Dallas/Ft. Worth and Houston)???

Mine was doing the same thing. Bob Ridgeway is working on it as we speak. I haven't heard from him to find out exactly what the problem is, but I will call him as soon as I get out of this meeting and let you know. It may be something one can repair on his own, but I know Bob does solid work and I wanted it fixed right.

I'm still searching for some answers...anyone else have any scenarios or remedies besides just buying a new trolling motor???

When mine did it the problem was a circuit board. I got it converted to digital when I had it repaired. No problems since then. $273.00. It was the 2nd time it did it.
