The wind was down so I gave myself the morning off and took a trip to Canyon. Got on the lake around 7:30 and tied on a bone colored Zara Spook. Put the trolling motor on high and covered some water trying to learn the lake. Ended up with 3 SM & 4 LM.
5 over 14" including a 17" Smally that was almost black in color. All on the Zara Spook and I caught fish untill 11:30 when I got off the lake. Most fish caught were around the chunk rock with deeper water access near by.

Best Bass day so far.

That is awesome, I haven't gotten much on top waters since it has been blowing pretty hard. Went and fished a tourny last weekend and went to the weigh in with 4 fish. Most of them came on steep drop offs, windy points and main lake points. Throwing worms was my ticket. Caught most of my fish in 15-30 ft of water. Had to take a break and go swimming about 1200 to cool off. Ended up with a little more than 7 lbs at the weigh in. Which is not bad for me, out there. That lake has always been 2 sided. One day you get your limit, the next you can't buy a bite. One day they are hitting on worms the next they won't even look at them. The shad have just spawned, so maybe that would also be some idea of what to throw. But any fishing is better than no fishing. grin

Crumple.

You have the structure correct.
I throw alot of worms also there, just had a day that the wind/bite let me work topwater.

7 lbs is a good day for me at Canyon.
And the Heat is a killer.

did real well last weekend!!! Fished shakey heads & tx rigged redbug tiki stiks around he marinas for most of the fish--mostly 15", bigger fish came off grass about 10ft on spinnerbaits. Tried dropshoting near the damn with nothing to show. I really want to catch a smallie. HOW do i do it?

Is there really grass in canyon lake? I've been graphing what looks like grass around 20-30 ft and fishing it without much luck. I've been trying to dredge it and see if i can pull some grass up but not seeing it. I'm new to this lake and trying to see if i can find anything similar to Amistad. It has been a let down (expected) so far. I'm sure there has to be some decent size fish in it but I'm not getting the time I'd like to fish and figure it out.

I'd really like to do a little fishing at Canyon Lake but previous attempts both in the lake and in the Guad above the lake has been pretty sad. I'm guessing Canyon is a much better swimming/jetskiing/sailing lake than a fishing lake? I normaly launch at Rebecca Creek and go either up stream or down. In fact I tried hitting the white bass run several times this year with not even a bite!

I dont know what this guy Jerad has been smoking but if there is ggggggrrrrrraaaaaasssssss in this lake i might as well sell my truck and boat and go look for a go cart to drive to work because the odds of me making it to work is as good as you all finding grass on this lake........(there is none)unless you like that black mossy crud on your lurer. So you all keep graphing that stuff and fishing it good luck.... Please let me know when this grass grows thick I would love to flip the heck out of it some time......lol..........

The only thing similar about Canyon and Amistad is that the water is wet and that is about it. The only grass you are gonna find is growing in someones yard!
