I am taking family to San Leon wednesday the 25th. We will probably fish the 18th street pier that evening/night. Is ther anywhere to throw the castnet around there? My 14 year old loves to throw the castnet, but has never experienced it in salt water. Then on to Galveston on friday the 27th. Will be there all day. Is there any good bank fishing toward SLP? Looking at Google maps, there is lots of beach before the bridge at SLP. Is this any good fishing/wading/swimming. Probably throw the castnet, but any advise on baits and soft palstics would help(both places). We have never been there and want to have a good time. Thanks in advance, BG

I would be really careful wading around SLP since people drown every year there. I would actually wade in the back bays behind the pass. On the galveston side there are some nice cuts right off the last dirt road exit before you reach the toll booth. On the Surfside side you could try cold pass.

Thanks in advance, BG PLEASE DO NOT wade SLP! some on here will disagree with me, but i have lived in galveston all my life and i'm a old salt, but i have never been in the water in the area of SLP. if you do wade this area, please keep a eye on each other and use a PFD. as for a pfd, just let it drag behind you if you don't want to wear it just in case you need it. stay safe. as for castnetting for bait, theres a few places along 3005/san luis pass rd.
SLAY AND FILLET,i hate the CCA/STAR!

Thanks for the tips guys.....especially the safety tips. I guess I need to clarify what I mean by wading/fishing the SLP area. I am not planning on wade fishing more than a few yards from the bank. Maybe knee deep. I want to take my 14 year old out fishing and catch some bait and mostly do some bank fishing. I am also seeing a few reports on Seawolf Park. Is this a good area for bank/pier fishing and catching some bait with cast net? Thanks, BG
