Just wondering if anyone has caught any catfish recently and if so what kind of bait did you use.

I have been fishing there almost evey weekend this year. Right now catching them on the north side of the lake along the grass lines in shallow water.

Have been using nightcrawlers with a slip cork about 2 feet down. Chummed with soured milo, but can't say it has really helped.

Have had to work hard for them, picking up one or two in a spot and moving down the shoreline.

I was catching decent size cats earlier in the yesr 3-5 pounds, but have been catching more 12" cats lately.

All have been channel cats.

Lots of snakes in the water recently too. Be careful.

Let me know what else you need to know about this lake. I have fished it for the last 8 years.

Sure have. Caught them in the shallow areas in the spring with minnows. There is the 'A frame' that holds plenty of fish in deep water too. I beleive most people fish for crappie more than anything else in MWL. The lady at the Weatherford Marina told me that is where she fishes. Said she sat in one place and caught 82 crappie one day.

Best thing about MWL is no skiing or jet skis. The boat ramp area looks like like Six Flags after noon or so. I get there when the gate opens (6 am) and leave by noon. Very nice boat ramp and dock.

Going in the morning for some catfish, will let you guys know how it went.

Ive only fished it once and i didnt have a boat so was fishin of the docks with minnows but i didnt catch anything. my brother caught 3 crappie one was about 10 inches long one was about 7 or 8 inches long and one was about 12 or 13 inches long. We were fishing on the backside dock where it real rocky and its a steep hike to get there. We saw alot of snakes too. We just got a boat so we plan on going back in a couple weeks.

If you go back in a boat for crappie head out almost directly across the lake from the boat ramp veering a little to the right. Along the shore you will see a metal A frame in the water. It is in about 20-25 ft of water and has a lot of submerged brush under it.

You almost always see someone tied up to it.

Between the boat ramp and the island there is a channel that drops from 6 feet to 25-28 and wraps around the island. It runs parallel to the shore in front of the bait shop/boat ramp.

The main lake is really flat and featurless. In the middle it is about 25 feet.

Be carful on the north end. If you can find the entrance to the creek you can also go back there. Really nice back there. Be careful around the entrance to the creek. The water goes from 6 to 2 feet real quick. Lots of submerged stumps. DO NO GO THROUGH THE NORTH END ON PLANE!!!!! Or you will get towed back bc you are missing a lower unit.

I have caught plenty of bass along the big rocks and weedlines. Most have been small. A friends brother caught a 7 pounder around the island several years back.

Check out the photos at the bait shop, there have been some big fish caught in that lake.

Mike runs the bait shop, he is a good guy that can point you in the right direction.

Went out this morning. Brought home only 3 channels. Caught about 7. REAL WINDY! North end, shallow water, weed lines, night crawlers.

Last night on Fox 4 news they said today was not going to be as windy. Yeah right.

Its a hit and miss but the second dock from the dam on the west side, if you have a boat, that area hold crappie too. So does the east side around the rocks. As far as catfish go, I'd say the east side south of the dock about 100 yards is the best, albeit they are not huge.

The bass fishing is not bad. Have not fished for them there in a long time. When I did I fished the shorelines, weeds, and rocks with spinner baits or plastic worms. I never caught large bass there, but I did caught fairly good numbers.

It is a good lake. I really enjoy fishing there. i am going again this weekend. Maybe tomorrow after work. Will let you guys know how I did.

Check out the pictures at the bait shop, some big fish have been caught there, and recently too.

I went out last night on the dock by the screen shelters. We took a crappie light we got at wal mart. didnt get any fish but we saw atleast 500 minnows swimmin around the light. we didnt get to the store in time to get minnows and we didnt have a net to catch any so we fished with night crawlers and power bait. I think were going back next week end and were gonna try to take the boat.

We caught a ton of bream and cats with the grandkids! Worms were the order of the day for us.

Drive down the road to El Paseo Mexican Restaurant for some great food! The fajitas are super and the flan dessert is some of the best! smile

I went out to MWL on Friday after work. Got there about 5 pm. It was about 800 degrees on the water. Suffered until the sun went down and then was eaten alive by bugs.

Caught one small bass in what I thought was a catfish spot. Caught one small drum while fishing for crappie. Caught one catfish in a catfish spot.

Not a good trip, but will be there again for more pain soon.
