I walked into the shed tonight and noticed these spiders EVERYWHERE. The are on all the shelfs, corners, paints cans, they are on everything.

I know what most spiders are, but can't put a name on this one. Can you help identify it.

Well I have been doing some research on the web. I have found out that this spider is a "brown widow". The brown widow venom is twice as potent as black widow venom. However, they do not inject as much venom as a black widow, are very timid, and do not defend their web. The brown widow is also slightly smaller than the black widow.

Here are some pictures found at an University site.

Definitely a brown widow. We have been seeing them more and more up here in North Texas around the Red River. I think they are a native of South America, but we are seeing all different colors including brown and orange. Go to your local feedstore and purchase some Demon WP. Use it faithfully once a month around your shed and you should get them under control. The idea is kill them and what they eat.

have you noticed them hidden in a dark spot in your shed or are they in plain sight. Just curious? Black ones usually are in a dark shaded spot. Or the one's I have seen are.

The shed is dark inside until I turn on the lights. These little suckers are everywhere in the shed. I have been invaded bolt I have only seen 2 black widows here in oklahoma so far. When I lived in California, I would see them all the time.
