Does anybody have any leads on where I could find a 5000 series Abu reel in the orange color? I have found a couple on ebay, but they all have the thumb bar and I would rather have the classic style. Or, does anybody know where you can get reels anodized or painted? Any custom reel sites? Thanks for the help...

I think you are talking about the Rocket? I had one and sold it--but I think they still sell them at Walmart.

nah, i can find the 'rocket' reels, but to me those seem like a cheaper version of the true abu...i know they made the real orange ones at one point many years ago and i'm assuming it was just a limited edition thing from what i have read...

try calling southwestern parts and service there a abu dealer and reel repair

I had a Rocket untill it got stolen. I really like it. I could cast a weightless plastic worm further than even my Revos will.

Chris Chris, The thumb bar release or the part over the top of the spool? ThumbREST comes off easy. I am also an ABU collector. I have Revos, and in 5000,5500, I have Reds,Black,Green,Orange, Blue and PURPLE, my favorite..............

I have 3 5500 2 6500 that work perfect made in 1992 and 93. I thinking that there was a man in Canton(flea market) trade days that worked on and sold reels.Haven't been there in awhile but he was there for a long time and still maybe there.
