My Dad's wife recently passed away an' she didn't fish so he's lookin' at gettin' him a pontoon boat. He's had several over the years and likes 'em. He's a long since retired sheriff that's 82 years old and of a modest income. He's been lookin' at the Suntracker's mainly cause he can make the payments on one and those are the ones that have the 50 hp 2 stroke Mercs on them. "When I die they can jus' come get it or you (me) can jus' take over the payments." Thanks dad. hammer I have been tryin' to get him to at least upgrade to a 4 stroke but he's always had 2 strokes and says "What the hell's wrong with them?" He's a might suspicious of new fandangled thangs.

So can you tell me if the 2 strokes that come on these pontoons are worth a dang and is there really good reason to upgrade to the 4 stroke? Are these kinda 2 strokes with out the newer direct fuel injections and such pretty much dinosaurs? thanks for your help smile

Nothing wrong with a dinosaur either...simple, lightweight, more power to weight...

However, the 50 usually makes for a severly underpowered pontoon, if he really wants to enjoy that thing, I HIGHLY suggest upgrading to close to rated HP.

I sold a fleet of pontoons, and without exception, the ones who I couldn't talk into upgrading all wish they did, and all that did came to thank me for helping with the decision.

Most tracker sales people will just take your money and get out of the way, it's all about numbers.

Although I NEVER recommend it....See if they will sell credit life insurance on that loan when he signs it up. At his age it may be tough, because the premium might be too high or he's past the highest issue age.....but at least make him inquire about it.

Pat's right. Upgrade the HP.

Two strokes are fine, too. I wouldnt have a four stroke, myself.

Now, Donald...please pick John Bolton for your running mate.

Well I am another old fart that decided he wanted to fish again. Bought 1 in 2006 didnt like it and bought the Blue Wave in 2007. Great rig, the only difference is I bought used. More power (on the boat) for the OFs.
