bassdreamer---Could the hooks have been VMC? Bought a pack last week and was finally getting to try them today, been a little windy. First cast I hung a good fish, got it about half way to the boat when it got in a bush. Could feel it pulling then suddenly nothing. Reel in my line and the knot was there but no break in my 50 Lb Power Pro, the knot had just slipped off the hook. Checked the other hooks and there was a noticable gap in the eye. Used my needle nose to close them down, hope that does it.

Compared them to some of my Gammakatsu and the eyes on the Gammakatsu's were much tighter with no noticable gap.

I have been having my 50lb. Power Pro braid breaking at my leader on my Carolina set up. I think I will start shopping.

I'm with JOF. Be careful with the hook eyes. The same with some of the Owner hooks, esp. the VMC's.

Power Pro is junk, mine keeeps breaking at the knot, or up line I have lost crankbaits when casting and line has a backlash and spool stops line will snap. Also do not use around rocks will fray.Back to good old Big Game or XT.

I've fished many braids and have found that they are all going to dig in, and all are going to snap at the knot when fishing with a mono leader. It has to do with the fact that mono has alot of stretch but braid has basically no stretch. With no give, a strong hookset will snap the leader no matter how hi test the leader is. I've decided that spiderwire is junk (digs in more than most, and snaps easier than most to me), and have yet to have a problem with 20 power pro as long as the braid is connected directly to the hook/lure. I've towed a pontoon boat to my snagged hook with 20 power pro. It's kind of a risk for the whole backlash and subsequent line snap problem, but all I prefer to fish with is lo test (less than 20) power pro.

im using 50# power pro. im goin to try the super glue. if it dont work then i think that i will just go to spider wire or 20# mono. i have never had a problem with them like i am with power pro. i was just wondering if anyone was having the same problem.

1. First of all, if you are flipping, use 65#.
2. Retie, especially the last foot or so, when it starts to fray.
3. Tie with a Palomar knot.
4. After tying the knot, make an overhand knot on the tag end, about 1/4" from the eye. This will keep the line (as in rope)from unraveling, and it will not slip.
5. Make sure the knot does not slip down to the gap in the eye of the hook.

i thought about tieing a knot on the end of the tag. to see if that would keep it from slipping. ill try that next time

i use the 20 and 30lb power pro with success. havent had the problems with it. versus's the other brands in my opinion. did have a couple of line to hook issues but my owners had a slight gap in the hook eye once i fixed that issue i have been doing great. but to me anyone can blow smoke about this or that. its really what you have confidence in.

Double the knot when using a palamar knot with braid, and leave just a hair longer tag end. It will not slip.

You've got to be real careful using glass beads on a c-rig that is rigged with braid. Your line can fray rather easily if there are imperfections in the glass bead and if the glass cracks (I found out the hard way during a tournament years ago). Also, don't use lead weights on your c-rig when using braid, as there are many imperfections in lead and it is easy to distort during regular use.

I absolutely love PowerPro braid since figuring out what not to do. And I agree with the posts above that talk about a gap in the eye of the hook being a problem as well.
