I would have to disagree. I have seen these guys every now and then and they are very different from the blue herons I have seen.

Bird on a rock in a swamp. If it would have had a snake in it's mouth, it might have been the birth place of a once great population of indigenous people.
However it is missing that one key thing so, it's just a picture of a crane.

Scott, how big was it? Maybe an immature yellow crowned night heron. Either that or a purple frog eater.

Actually the name "little blue heron" is correct. It's the proper name not a reference to a young great heron. The picture you compared it to is the great blue heron which is not the same as little blue heron. http://www.schmoker.org/BirdPics/LBHE.html
