Thank's dshort

Yes they do and if you want to fish any where there are stumps it is advised to use through the hull.

Assuming you are talking about a fiberglass boat.

You can use either the skimmer or the puck for in hull transducers. I have used both with equal success.

I agree with Dayne. Go to Home Depot and get some of the PCV7 expoxy. It is a paste and does not have air bubbles problems. Lightly sand the bottom of the transducer and smooth the inside of hull. New style trandusers and stumps do not mix.

Do you have to do any drilling into the hull? I mean, how thick of a hull will the transducer work through?

The epoxy is actually called PC7. I looked at mine yesterday. No drilling in the hull. Just find the most level area with good access and sand off any rough gel coat. Also lightly sand / rough up the face of the transducer. The only fiberglass hull type that I know of that won't work is honeycomb or sandwich type construction. If you have a Ranger you are OK.

Also, remember Lowrance distinguishs between "thru-hull" and "shoot-thru-hull."

One mounts through the hull, while the other mounts on a contact floor area in the bilge.

A true thru-hull transducer is usually available for the dual-frequency sonar units meant for really deep water conditions and larger vessels, not really intended for bass boats (like shoot-thru-hull is). -ray
