I am planning on a little afternoon fishing this week. I have a smaller boat and plan on launching in Dickinson Bay. Does anybody know where to go or have any tips/tactics or am I wasting gas fishing there? Or if anybody has any suggestions on where to go in the Kemah area, I would really appreciate it. Thanks everyone

You putting in at Fools Marina?

I'd either drift the spoils in Dickensen Bay or I would drift the reefs starting from Redfish Island to Spillway or Parker. Since the wind is SSE today that's what I would do first.

If I were going to anchor or drift/anchor it would be the oyster reefs E. of the ICW or near Todds. Also watch for ships and such if you anchor and remember to anchor in deep water and fish shallow, good advice a local told me years ago.

Today I would be going for trout fished on the bottom but it might be a little early still. Worth a shot tho.. Drifting is the key tho, drift until you find the fishies then anchor up quietly.

The state recently issued a warnning against seafood consuption
for the bayou. I sometimes launch at the boat ramp under the 146 bridge and make the run up and into the flood gates.

Bringing back some memories.
I used to live in Bacliff. My uncle had a house on the Dickinson Bay. It was close to Marge's Bait house. (don't know if that is still there, it was a long time ago. We used to take a boat to "the inlet". I think it was the water inlet for HL&P. I was a youngster, but I remember it being pretty good fishing. Does anybody know if Marge's is still in business or the inlet still a good place to fish. Just wondering.

The power plant has been moth balled so its not a fuctioning spillway anymore, more like a long channnel that doesn't get flushed, only influenced by rising and falling tides.

I don't about that bait camp, must had been a while back.

Thanks for everyones input. I went this afternoon and found out that my drift sock works pretty good in a 30mph wind. HaHa. No fish though. My brother-in-law and I tried a little of everything and no luck. We eventually gave up and tried to catch some of the ribbon fish that were jumping with some spooks. no catching but hey, we were still fishing.

A buddy of mine has a house in San Leon, that sits on Dickinson Bayou. We caught alot of keeper drum and some big uglies around fall, as well as, rat reds, croakers and whiting. Since the spring fishing has been kinda slow with only a big ugly or two and a jackfish. Also I have caught a few slimy eels! We have tried fishing Dickinson bay, in a boat around the gas well without much luck.
