My motor guide is dead and I need a new one. I really want the Minn Kota with a remote accessory but it is about $1000. From a need vs want stand point which trolling motor and functions is best for a bass fisherman? I am new to the Bass sport and want to spend more time using the rod and reel than the motor. I will buy what I need, is the remote accessory worth the extra cash?
Thanks

I just purchased the Minn Kota Max-Pro foot-control 80lb thrust this spring and love it. It has the new lift-assist piston. It is way easier to lift than the 80lb hand control Maxxuum I had. Coach

well.... couple things play a factor in what u will need.
-length of boat? -12v 24v 36v system? -do u fish in the wind, tourneys??? -extra room in ur boat for multi battery system
I have a minn kota at 65 lbs thrust on my 18ft ranger and its not enough sometime when i get out in those 15mph+winds.. I dont need a 101 lbs thrust but would liek to have it but i will be getting a 80 lbs thrust minn kota very soon and im sure it will be enough for my needs...

20 ft nitro
I can jerry rig enough room from extra battries
Is it just me or is it more windy this year than many in the past? I have been on the water 6 time in the past month in 16+ winds. Once it was 23 MPH!!!
So 80LBS is minamum?

I have been fishing in 30 to 40mph wind this year on several trips. I think Texas is now the new windy Capital of the USA.

I have a near new 2007 model Motor Guide Tour 82 with universal sonar that I just pulled off my boat. Works absolutely perfectly I am just a Minn Kota guy. If you are interested you can have it for $500.
Just sent me a pm or email me at pcella@tsisupply.com if you are interested.

With a 20 ft Nitro I wouldn't go with anything less than a 80thrust maxxumm. It's a great tm. However, for about 100 dollars more, the promax with the powerassist lift is really nice as stated above.

Dont get the remote controlled one if you bass fish, get the 80lb maxpro MK, foot controlled.

I put an 80lb. Minn Kota on my 19' Champion. Pulls it great.
Just make sure you get a 52" shaft. The shorter shaft will spend too much time out of the water in the wind.

Too many problems with the remote model. Stick with the regular foot control model, and the lift assist is a sweet option to get on it.

i have a 19.5 foot skeeter and i have a 74lb thrust minn kota maxxum, when the wind gets up above 15 or 20 mph i wish i had more, but minn kota is the way to go.
