Are the piers in the ship channel worth hitting? I want to do some after dark fishing with my kids while we are down there. The only one I have fished is the one on the beach, think it's called Bob Hall pier.Any advice is appreciated.

Roberts Park and Charlies Pasture are the only one's I know near the channel.. There is another.. I always forget the name B something.. Borden pier? Ehh whatever.

Horace Caldwell is my fav actually, it's like Bob Hall and goes into the gulf.

There is a fee, $1.25, but that's peanuts besides it's just within sight of the jetties.

Has Charlie's been rebuilt? It was damaged from the wake of a ship earlier this year.

Roberts Point Park Pier, Station Street Pier are the onlt current channel piers. Charlie's Pasture Pier was damaged twice by ship wakes(even though the Coast Guard deemed that ships weren't operating out of normal). It hasn't been rebuilt, and the city is taking their time because they want the shipping companies of the ships to pay up for the wake damage.

Charlie's was the best in my opinion for night fishing. Had better light spread and the lights had a better color. The other two piers are higher off the water, and basically use street lighting to light the pier and not too much of the water.

Horace Caldwell in Port A hasn't been good lately. I've been down 2 weekends in May and neither have been worth the $2 entry fee. The water is totally brown with all of the wind not to mention the Seaweed too. I caught one small red last time and in the last 2 trips that is all I've seen caught that was over 6 inches and not a hardhead. Don't trust the fishing reports you see either. I've been reading the same report for Horace Caldwell for 4 months but it gets reposted every day in the paper. We did go to Goose Island last time also and caught some nice fish there. Mostly Sheepshead right at the pier but also some reds as well. Tons better than the Beach Pier. The Beach Pier should pick up later in the year but it just hasn't been good lately.

Heading there next week, staying at Goose Island park, I am planning on fishing one night at the pier in Port A. Will let you know how it goes.

Yeah that was the plan for us too and let the kids swim on the beach. Everybody agreed after 2 hours on the pier that we should have just driven back to Goose Island and fished again. The kids got a kick of catching something besides hardheads there. Have fun everybody and I'm going to check out some new spots for a while. San Luis Pass is next on my list when the winds break next week. Let me know how it goes in Port A next week. July should be excellent there at night.

I went to Horace Caldwell 5-31 stayed over night left at 8AM Sunday I limited out on Reds, Caught 20 something trout 24" was the biggest. I have been to that pier twice this year with nothing. By far my best fishing trip yet. I was using Live shrimp then switched to a Berkley Gulp New Penny Shrimp 3.5 and I started catching reds... Don't forget your drop net!

I used Live Shrimp under a cork at Horace Caldwell I also used Berkley Gulp Shrimp New Penny 3.5 using a 2/0 Croaker hook, Mornings may be good for Spanish Mak's use some sort of leader with a heavy spoon tward the end of the pier, Also the surf and Jetty may be good.

Let us know what you Catch!
